We had the good fortune of connecting with Melita Green and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Melita, let’s talk legacy – what do you want yours to be?
I want my legacy to be similar to Maya Angelou’s quote:

People will forget what you said
People will forget what you did
People will never forget how you made them feel.

I love connecting people and helping them create their own “village” through connections. As a single mother of two my community has always been important.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Currently I have multiple jobs.

I have the regular office job as a contract manager for a construction management firm. Then I have my side hustle which is event planning which I started doing when I first had my son, I enjoyed creating a party environment that was out of the ordinary – this was a fun way to earn extra money as a single mother. I usually agree to do an event if it is a referral, the hardest thing to do is to say no and I have had to say no because I knew I wouldn’t get along with a particular client. So, I decided even though I wouldn’t make as much money I still need to keep my sanity. You also have to find vendors that are easy to work with as well and match your energy most of all reliable – there are people I can call and tell them here is the theme and colors get back to me and I know I will love with whatever they come up with and it will perfectly go well with my vision. Good energy is important with anyone you come in contact with things come together so much quicker and smoothly.

Other job parent association president for the last three years at my kids’ school, I think I missed my calling I enjoy putting these community events together and again bringing people together to build a community. Hardest lesson from this position not everyone is going to like you and what you do but that’s okay. What has been rewarding is the people who tell you thank you.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
My kids go to school in San Juan Capistrano and this has become my favorite city-there is a lot of history here.

The mission of course is always a must to visit. The Tea House on Los Rios then Bloom and Five Vines for food and drinks. There is the new Riverfront space. I love Breezy for breakfast. It is a great area to walk around and explore. And there of course the will be time to wander off to Dana Point – love Maison for breakfast and lunch.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I have been surrounded by strong women my entire life in my family, work and friendships. They have helped shaped me and have made me who I am today. But my father gave me my strength and strong work ethic to weather the good and bad times of life.
