Meet Carolina Yasukawa | Bridal Hair and Makeup artist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Carolina Yasukawa and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Carolina, what’s something about your industry that outsiders are probably unaware of?
Bridal hair and makeup artistry is the most memorable part of your day. Yet the one thing in the budget that gets cut.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I started my career as a hairstylist with a well known company. We would do runway shows and I would watch makeup artist and say “I want to do that too” I did a lot of free photo shoots to practice my makeup artistry. Asked artist for tips etc and eventually honed my craft. I was with an agency for a few years but it was no work I could be creative or proud of. It just made me money. I got dropped from the agency and felt like I wasn’t good enough. It ended up being a blessing. In those moments I decided to love into Bridal. It’s a different hustle but definitely a more fulfilling industry for me. I wanted to bring my friends with similar stories to mine and start an agency where I have multiple
Artists. We are still growing but i definitely see it flourishing

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
This is a funny question. I am a mom and most of my friends are moms. We love spending time with our families and do family outings. We go to festivals and events throughout the city. We definitely go to the beach and drive in movies in the summer. We love to ride our bikes through the city and find a local taco stand to eat. I’m
Not much on trendy spots. I’m a very laid back not trying hard kinda hangout spot person. I wanted to be able to wear jean shorts a white shirt and a bun ,no makeup and not be stared at.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I have always been a self starter and self
Motivator. In fact a lot of people did NOT believe in me. But I believe in me. I haven’t had a lot of help or a mentor. I’m very much a “ I want it I’m going to go get it “ kind of person.
