Decision Makers Series: avoiding decision fatigue by adopting effective habits


There’s a ton of research around how setting habits can help us conserve energy because it reduces the number of decisions we have to make in a day. However, not all habits are created equal and so we’ve asked our community to tell us about the habits they have been most effective for them.

The habits that most help me succeed are journaling and having a secondary artistic endeavor. Writing daily since 3/1/18, even if only a few sentences, allows me to parse out my thoughts, emotions, and interests. This provides me with a stronger sense of Self that spills over into how I carry myself onstage. Further, cultivating a hobby that I don’t monetize or use in my primary work of Mentalism gives me a space to work out creative problems. I find that if I need a solution to make a trick work or if I run into an issue with scripting, sitting down to collage for all but thirty minutes can often offer me an answer. Read More>>

Finishing projects! 😆 I know so many musicians, writers, painters et cetera with a million great ideas and just as many half done projects. You can’t fix it if it ain’t done! Definitely my work ethic. I have always made it a personal goal to work hard and push myself to reach my full potential. It doesn’t matter if I’m tired, energetic, or bored, showing up and giving my best is non negotiable.
The second habit that’s been huge for me is consistency. I take classes every single day with as many different teachers and choreographers as I can, because being well-rounded is very important to me. The habits that helped me feel succeed are repetitive practice of perfecting my assisted stretches. Making sure I have the correct flow of stretches for each individual and able to modify stretches as needed based on each individual needs. Practicing assisted stretching on different body types: female, male, kid, athlete, pro athletes etc etc. Practice makes perfect is the motto I went with to help me achieve the accuracy of my personalized stretching.
