We had the good fortune of connecting with Lori Lyu and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Lori, is there a quote or affirmation that’s meaningful to you?
“Thoughts shape reality.”

This quote means that as long as I want to, my life can have countless possibilities. It doesn’t matter what industry I’m in, where I am, or my age—all that matters is whether my heart desires to do so. The world changes with my mindset, my mind is the universe.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
What sets me apart from other stylists is that I went to film school. This not only means I understand how the Hollywood film industry operates, but it also allows me to serve as a costume designer for films as well as a fashion stylist, thanks to my strong aesthetic sensibility. This background has significantly broadened my career path. I excel at using a variety of colors, textures, and layered elements to create highly intricate and maximalist styles. I’ve always felt very fortunate that I have never had to promote myself or go for interviews to land jobs; instead, I am often recommended to producers by colleagues, and they contact me directly. In this industry, opportunities are rarely handed to newcomers, as most people prefer to work with creators who have a good reputation and a proven track record.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I will for sure take them to all the tourist spots first: the Hollywood sign, Griffith Park, and Santa Monica. Also gonna take them to visit my film set, take them to hike, that’s the local way to experience LA.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Honestly, I have to say that I haven’t encountered many people who have directly helped me along the way. My progress so far has been entirely due to my own skills and efforts. As a stylist, once I complete a project, the producer recognizes my work and naturally considers me for subsequent projects.

There is a book I particularly admire—The Secret by Rhonda Byrne. This book has profoundly impacted me, helping me achieve a state of self-awareness. Since then, my life has undergone a significant positive transformation, bringing about changes that I would describe as truly transformative.
