We had the good fortune of connecting with Gabriela and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Gabriela, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
One of my lifelong dreams has always been to become an entrepreneur or business owner. As I was growing up, I was uncertain if I was going to ever fulfill that dream or what kind of business I would have. After earning my university degree in journalism with an emphasis in public relations, I moved to the state of Utah to work as a Public Relations and Marketing Director at a bilingual law firm. By this time, and before accepting this job, I had already been developing my business plan for a public relations and social media agency. Once I was working at this directorial position, I was surprised to receive so many questions from small business owners seeking guidance about what things they could do to improve their business image, strengthen their social media presence, how to position their product to their clients, and other aspects related to brand and social media strategy.

After successfully expanding the social media presence of the law firm where I was employed, and with the blessing of the firm’s founder and co-partner, I decided that this was the right time to start my business for small and medium sized business owners. Consequently, BASAL Creative Communications was established on May 8, 2024.

Throughout my journey, I recognized a clear and persistent need among small business owners for reliable guidance in building their brand awareness. Many entrepreneurs reached out to me, uncertain about whom to trust with such a critical aspect of their businesses. These interactions highlighted the demand for expert support in navigating the complexities of social media and digital branding.

Most clients struggle to present their businesses in a professional and credible manner to their target audiences online. The lack of having someone trustworthy and adept in image management often leaves them feeling overwhelmed. The daily responsibilities of running a business can be hectic and time consuming, which means that marketing, public relations, and social media efforts often receive less attention than they deserve.

BASAL Creative Communications is committed to help small and medium sized business owners tell their unique stories in creative ways through social media. With a strong emphasis on public relations, our goal is to provide clients with clear, actionable guidance for managing their business image effectively while fostering growth in the digital landscape.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
BASAL Creative Communications is different than other agencies because we care about nurturing the image of our client’s business by delivering customized strategies to execute organic outreach. We do this by offering bilingual services (English and Spanish), being selective in our partnerships with clients, and having a limited roster list to ensure that each brand is taken care of properly to succeed in their markets.

BASAL Creative Communications is proud to serve the Los Angeles Metropolitan area, where we focus assisting small and medium-sized business owners expand and strengthen their social media presence. Our clients understand the transformative potential that comes with effective digital image management. By offering guidance and support in this fast-paced environment, we empower businesses to reach new audiences and create lasting impact through curated social media strategies. We recognize that, the correct social media presence can be life changing for our clients and their businesses.

As BASAL Creative Communications continues to grow, I’ve gained valuable insights in a short time. For instance, it’s important in business to delegate tasks so you can focus on your strengths. Delegation enables your business to thrive, and using money as a resource allows you to assign specialized tasks to those with the right expertise. Although trusting others can be stressful, it’s essential for making progress.

One of the things that we want to let people know is that BASAL Creative Communications is here to help you figure out how to navigate the social media world. It is important for businesses and entrepreneurs to have a consistent digital presence that promotes their brand and its products or services. Before making a purchase, most people will look into your brand through social media—such as Instagram, TikTok, or Google. That is why it is essential for your messaging to be coherent and to represent your company’s values, mission, and vision. Many businesses overlook the importance of their social media presence, not knowing the potential impact it could make in their business’s success.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If a friend of mine was visiting the area and I wanted to show them around, I would definitely take them to The Getty Center, The Getty Villa in Malibu, The Holocaust Museum in Glendale (which is temporarily closed for renovations until June 2026), The Ronald Reagan Presidential Library in Simi Valley, and the Grammy Museum. I truly believe museums hold so much value in society for children, young adults, and families. It is always a good opportunity to learn new things.

When it comes to restaurants, it is so hard to pick because this is SoCal so there are plenty of options to choose from. I could not just name one, but I would definitely take my friend to breakfast at Leo & Lily, lunch at California Chicken Cafe, and dinner at North Italia in Santa Monica.

It’s also worth mentioning all the street vendors who contribute to the character of L.A., whether they’re selling tacos, tortas, corn on a stick, fresh cut fruit, or shaved ice.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
There are so many people, advice, books, speeches, lessons, and experiences that have shaped who I am. These individuals include my family, high school teachers, university professors, colleagues, mentors, and my peers. It’s impossible to do it all by yourself. All of them have been essential to my journey; hence, I do believe that people come into your life to teach you something or help you move forward in life. Ultimately, I believe that having faith in God and in yourself is what will guide you closer towards your goals to be able to achieve them. It’s important to believe in yourself even when obstacles present themselves and have that don’t give up mentality is crucial to achieve anything in life.

I once went to a public relations conference in Chicago and one of the people being awarded said, “if you see something that should be done and nobody is doing, that is your calling. Your calling is that space, idea, thing or topic, that nobody seems to see but yourself and that needs to be fulfilled. You see it because it is your job to make a difference in that space and make your contributions there.”

Also, there are two books that I found less than two years ago, Maybe and What Do You Do with An Idea? by Kobi Yamada. Although these are children’s books, I believe the messages in these two books can help any person regardless of their age to be courageous enough to follow that thing that they know they should be doing and working towards.

I want to say a special thank you for their support in my journey to Angela Batres, Bill Imada, Christopher Cathcart, Paul Gomez, Kathy Ortiz- Cobian, Carlos Trujillo, and Stacy Long.
