We had the good fortune of connecting with Stacy Ines and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Stacy, what do you love most about your work?
I absolutely love what I do. Stand-Up and Voice Acting has challenged me to creatively leap outside my comfort zone.

These platforms allow me to express myself freely and granted me the ability to be myself and say, “Welp. This is me.”

It’s like reading your diary to a bunch of strangers without having to pay a therapist. People often tell me they’ve always wanted to try Stand-Up.

I always push them to try, but they usually object due to their fears. Which is understandable because you’re essentially afraid of having something to lose. Except failing to take risks or chances – you close the door to something potentially incredible. From my own personal experience – It has been an absolute journey. … but I’ve also had my doubtful moments. Am I ready to do a show?

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’m a first generation Latina who started doing stand-up after losing part of my hearing and developing severe Tinnitus. I initially pursued stand-up as a way to cope with my severe anxiety caused by the Tinnitus. There’s truth in funny and the ability to express my struggles has been freeing. There have been some challenges and it hasn’t been easy such as negative stigmas such as women are not as funny as men and the lack of diversity in stand-up. I want to break through preconceptions.

I want to change that. I want to be known as the funny crazy proud Latina.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
This is a tough one. I was born and raised in Los Angeles. There’s so much culture and many places to explore. If I had to pick the perfect day in LA – it’d probably be brunch at Hamburger Mary’s, a hike down Debs Park, and ending the day having drinks in DTLA at bars like Bang! Bang! and Clifton’s.

Of course, some Pupusas from Las Cazuelas never fails either!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I am so thankful for my mentors. I strongly believe that constructive criticism is essential. An idea might be funny in your mind, but how do you ensure it actually is to a bunch of strangers? These people have helped developed who I am and have given me the confidence I lacked. Lisa Sundstedt founder of Pretty Funny Women is the most straight forward truth bomb I didn’t know I needed. She’s allowed me to push boundaries and has empowered me to show people women can be funny too.

I’m also pretty thankful to Flappers Comedy Club and Paul Moomjean. They were the first comedy club I ever had a show at. Without their guidance and support – I honestly don’t think I would have gotten this far. They’re basically like family. They make everyone feel like they’re at home. They took my ‘training wheels’ off when I doubted myself and provided a tremendous amount of support.

Paulette Lifton, Mimi Maynard and Ashley Bornancin from Voice Masters in Burbank are voice over Gurus. This Triple Threat has pushed me to express myself and limitations. They’re a character bootcamp! When you feel like giving up – they remind you to keep going. Voice Masters has showed me how to take advantage of that. My creativity with voice tones and even stage presence has improved so much thanks to them.
