We had the good fortune of connecting with Alyssa Lowry and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Alyssa, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I always knew from a young age that I wanted to do something creative, and eventually I found modeling. Before modeling came into my life, I did dance for 12 years. I always loved dance because I was able to express myself through movement, and create my own art. I knew that dance was not going to be my end goal, and when I was reaching the end of Highschool I decided to really start modeling. I got into California State University, Fullerton, simultaneously I also got signed with Envy Model Management, giving me my chance to spread my wings and do my own thing. From the second I did my first test shoot I knew modeling was my passion. I felt so free and myself in front of the camera, I could do funky poses and use my knowledge of dance to my advantage. The feeling that I get from being in front of a camera gave me so much fuel and passion to never give up this career, and to keep going no matter what. A year into my career I was signed with Wilhelmina Miami, and then signed with WeLoveModels MX where I got to continue to grow my career. Modeling is my outlet, my passion, and the dream I will continue to chase. I cannot wait to see where my career goes.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Art to me has meant so many different things to me. When I was young I did dance for 13 years, but I always knew deep down dance would not be the art form I am the most passionate about. Dance gave me the skills to understand a stage presence, as well as performing and bringing emotions to life through movement and facial expressions. When I found modeling I felt all the pieces connect, allowing me to use my background of dance to make new art. I love to do creative editorial shoots; sometimes I bring glam and Hollywood to spaces you wouldn’t expect, such as a tire shop. I love to bring creative’s artistic ideas to life, the collaboration between photographers and models is truly artistic in so many ways.
Getting to this point of being secure in bringing creative’s ideas to life was not easy, but very rewarding. Dance gave me a lot of things, but it took time to understand how I looked on camera, what angels look good, and how to execute poses without looking stiff. Time is everything, and mastering your craft takes time. You can’t expect things to happen overnight. Looking back at my first campaign versus my most recent (4 years in between) I see such a difference in the way I model.
One thing I am the most proud of is where I have been able to bring myself in my modeling career, while also being a full time university student. Being able to manage my modeling career, while also doing a full class load and having a college kid life has been very rewarding.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Some of my favorite places are all over OC, especially Anaheim. Our first stop on the agenda would be the Anaheim Packing House. In the Packing House there are a plethora of different restaurants you can order from and take to any of the bars there. My favorite bar is BXCR, it is a train car made into a bar with great cocktails and dice games. Behind the Packing House is a wine bar called Pali Wine Co. with amazing natural wines. My go to lunch/dinner spot is Ahba in Laguna Beach, they have the best burgers. There is also another Ahba location in The Camp, Costa Mesa. In The Camp they have great shopping as well as food, and its walking distance to The Lab Anti Mall. My favorite activity would be Disneyland, it reminds me of my childhood and is always a fun time.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My mom Janine Lowry. My mom has always pushed me to do whatever my heart desires, with no judgement, and always full of support. She is my biggest cheerleader and person in my corner rooting me on when no one else did. I would not be even close to where I am today if I did not have such an amazing, supportive, strong women to help me along the way. She was always the person I would look up to as a child, and even more now as an adult. She truly showed me what it means to be an independent strong women.
