Meet Makelia LaRee | Writer, Director, Producer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Makelia LaRee and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Makelia, have you ever found yourself in a spot where you had to decide whether to give up or keep going? How did you make the choice?
I know when to keep going or give up by listening to both my faith and my purpose. If the mission is simply hard, I will keep going because growth, impact, and calling are rarely easy. But if something begins to pull me away from my values, peace, or the mission I’ve been given by God, I understand that sometimes letting go isn’t necessarily quitting it’s making room for what I’m truly meant to do. I believe that, perseverance is guided by purpose, not just persistence.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My art is rooted in truth, storytelling, and purpose. Whether I’m writing stage plays, producing events, or hosting Live On The FedUp Show, everything I create is meant to spark real conversations and help people confront the things we often avoid, pain, healing, accountability, and growth. My stage play Grief, Grudges & Guilt is a perfect example of that. I don’t just create entertainment; I create experiences that make people feel, reflect, and sometimes even begin their healing journey.
What sets me apart is that I lead with authenticity and boldness. I’m not afraid to say the uncomfortable things that many people think but won’t speak out loud. My brand, Mz FedUp, was born out of that very spirit, being fedup with silence, excuses, and limitations. Through my work, I aim to empower voices and remind people that their stories matter.
Professionally, my journey has been far from easy. There were moments of doubt, limited resources, and times when doors simply didn’t open. But I learned early on that sometimes you have to build your own table when no one invites you to sit at theirs. I kept pushing, creating, and believing in the vision even when the path wasn’t clear. Faith, resilience, and consistency carried me through those difficult seasons.
Along the way, I’ve learned some powerful lessons: stay true to your voice, trust the process, and never underestimate the power of perseverance. Not every setback is a failure, many of them are simply redirections preparing you for something greater.
What I want the world to know about me and my brand is that my story is one of transformation and purpose. I’m not just a creator or a host, I’m a storyteller who believes in using my platform to inspire, challenge, and uplift others. Everything I do is rooted in one mission:
Empowering voices. Creating real conversations. And reminding people that their truth has power.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
It would depend on what area I was currently in bc I stay traveling to promote my show and brand. We would definitely hit the shopping stores, we must eat, I prefer restaurants that have a nice vibe and area where we can be by ourselves bc we tend to get loud lol, we would definitely visit the theater district, I would show them all the popular sightseeing spots, and we don’t do the club scenes anymore so we would either find a nice lounge to hangout at or we would set up shop at my crib lol

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Yes most definitely, shout-out to my parents who stand with me and behind me as I’m pursuing my dreams, shout-out to my son who motivated me and hypes me up, Ms. Shelia Fayson Jackson who pours into me and mentors me on this journey, my family who is the definition of VILLAGE, my Bestfriend Lynn Moton who talks me off the edge sometimes when I start doubting my purpose, and shout-out to God himself for giving me the gifts and the opportunity for my gift to make room for me.
