We had the good fortune of connecting with DJ Royelle and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi DJ Royelle, have there been any changes in how you think about work-life balance?
Post mom life, I was heavily into my career and deejaying. I was focused on being the best that I could be in every area of my life. I had lots of time to grow in my careers and learn from the best and still have time to have a life outside of work. What allowed me to succeed was to have a child later in my life. I was 34 when I became a mommy. Now, I’ve swapped the term ‘Work-Life’ and say ‘Life-Work’. Because I value so much my peace and time with my daughter. A heathy balance is always good for the mind and soul. Now that my daughter is seven, we can do so much more and value our time together. These moments have influenced my priorities in this chapter in my life.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I believe what sets me apart from others is the time of when I started to Deejay. During the late 90s there wasn’t many female DJs. It was rare to see a female DJ even in the early 2000s. This was an exciting time to be a female DJ and show the male-dominated industry that women can be bad-ass DJs too 😊
This wasn’t easy, there was a lot of blood, sweat and tears that came with being a female DJ. To prove to others that we can do it. The countless hours spent learning the craft and creating your own sound is invaluable. Along with the hard work, I had so much fun in my studio practicing, big venue events, and clubs around the country with no end in sight. It was a drive like no other. It’s true what they say, practice makes perfect. No cutting corners or faking it. It’s merely the practice that will showcase for itself.
What I’m most proud of is when I got the opportunity to DJ for an entire month for the United States military in the Middle East. I will never forget this experience that has left such a soft spot in my heart for those who serve. Their dedication to our country and love they have for each other is unbreakable.
I would like the world to know about my brand is, never fake it. Be true to yourself and just have fun with it. Trials and tribulations will occur, but it’s how you handle them in the moment and grow from them that makes you great. My logo is the crown, because every women should know they are special and can do and be anything they want to be.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Since I live in Los Angeles, there is a lot to do here! A hike, a beach day and spa date would be on the interbinary. Along with eating at the best restaurants in LA. Even a fun day at Disneyland is a great choice! If it’s too hot, there is always a relaxing stay in Big Bear where it snows in the winter. The great thing about California is that we have everything here from the beaches to the desert!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
A special shout out to the Familia Diaz, my close friends and my daughter. You are my backbone. Thank you for always supporting me!

I would like to thank my LatinaFest familia. These group of women inspire me and give me more drive to be better. A big shoutout to entrepreneurs, Bel Hernandez Castillo and Naibe Reynoso. These two woman and their staff are incredibly poderosas (Powerful women). Thank you for everything you both do to help Latina women all around the world succeed!

To the Deejay community. Thank you for all the love and support over the 15+ years of deejaying. I love playing alongside you.
