We had the good fortune of connecting with Bobbi Rockett and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Bobbi, why did you pursue a creative career?
It is my mission to heal and inspire the world. I’ve been lucky enough to have been bestowed various gifts from God that enable me to use my voice, body, and ideas as a means to connect with others. I have been inspired by so many artists and figures through time that I cannot help but to envision a life filled with similar successes and ambitions as those who I looked up to growing up. I remember learning about Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. in elementary school and feeling so awe-struck by the power of one person to mobilize hundreds of thousands of people across the nation and world to come together and fight for justice and unity for all. I have always felt connected to others so deeply, as if I have known from the beginning, we are all one, simply experiencing life through different bodies and stories. No matter how many lives my soul has gone through, I have been Bobbi Rockett for only 21 years, and I am continuously learning the privileges that come with the experience of being a white woman in America. Of course, I have had my own struggles and continue to face challenges as does everyone all life long, but to strive understand the complexity of my privilege and how it benefits me day to day is the least I can do to carry a more universal perspective. I’ll never be able to speak from the perspective of BIPOC, but by diving into my own identity and the implications that come with it, I am able to foster a genuine respect and admiration for my human siblings that have experienced very opposing realities due to the way America treats people with the bodies they were born into. Being an artist means that I publicly embrace who I am fully and completely, no matter what anyone may have to say about my differences and the way they perceive them and me. I accept the truth of my imperfection and choose to show up anyway with a heart full of compassion for the humans I share this planet with. If one person can see me standing fully in my truth and be inspired to look deeper into themselves or feel affirmed to stand more confidently in their shoes, I will have completed my job. This is why success is an arbitrary term to me. I am successful because I am alive and breathing. Everything else is just icing on the cake– more blessings to be grateful for. My mission is to inspire, so I will do that by having fun and creating cool things and living as proof that you can do and be whatever you choose in this earthly experience, just as my idols have shown me.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I have learned so much along the way. Specifically, I have been peeling layers off of myself like an onion, getting closer and closer to my pure essence. Making art is a way for me to channel that pure soul essence. I think many people look at an artist and assume they are creating from an egoic standpoint, so when the artist’s expression of self does not make sense to them, they create assumed truths about them to help their own mind and soul feel at ease with the dissonance of who they thought this person was and who their art implies them to be. As I said, for me, creating is a process of getting more and more familiar with my truth. It is an ongoing process that requires a lot of self-love and self-healing, but the act of creating actually carries that loving, healing essence in itself. That is what is so fucking (excuse my french) fascinating to me about the creative process. There is healing in the actual creation process AND in the consumption of the art (by fans and anyone who listens and feels what the artist felt or notices they are not alone in feeling that way).

I went from being a high-achieving people pleaser that asked my snapchat story what outfit to wear to concerts to someone who has worn a bra on the outside of their shirt on multiple occasions. LMAO. That is to say, I am learning that there’s no fucking rules to this shit and anyone that tries to convince you otherwise is trying to control you for their own personal gain or motives. SOOOOO by any fucking means, be your fullest, most outrageously quirky, badass, bitchy self. BE KIND TO OTHERS. BUT DONT LET NOBODY WALK ALL OVER YOU, telling you you’re this and that trying to get you to shrink. uh uh. that is BSSSSSSS, i swearrrrrrrr. In the real world, you don’t have to ask to use the fucking bathroom. We are trained in school to require approval and affirmation from adults in positions of authority OR ELSE. yeah, nah. fuck the or else. I AM OR ELSE BITCH. IT IS MY WORLD, YOUR WORLD, OUR WORLD, AND WE WILL DO WTVR WE PLEASE WITH OUR TIME HERE ON THIS EARTH IN THESE TEMPORARY BODIES.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
hmmmmm I would def take them … shit idk. im not the best with this stuff lol. but we would def go to the beach, smoke weed, and go thrifting. and go to some fun music event to meet other artists and/or watch a performance of some sort. OOOOO and there’s comedy shows!! I haven’t been to one yet, but I want to. Kat Williams is coming soon. Def gonna try to hit that one.

But yeah, honestly I don’t go out that much, I just prefer to be IN THE DANCE STUDIO (i would take them to dance w me @ Eighty Eight where I am a production intern currently) or music studio duhhhh (LOUDHOUSE w/ Hefe is where it’s at… also shoutout Skelli Skellz cuz that dude’s a mf G).

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
The book Ask & It Is Given by Esther & Jerry Hicks. I watched Abraham Hicks videos daily for like a year during my gap year (after high school, before college). The teachings of Abraham opened my heart and mind to possibilities I could not have fathomed otherwise, and I thank Esther and Jerry for making these simple yet profound messages of interconnectedness, manifestation & the power of positive thinking so accessible for me and so many people of all ages and backgrounds. This book that I am reading currently is providing tangible ways to integrate the wisdom of Abraham into my life and actively manifest and co-create with the universe whatever I can dream up. Even if the book isn’t for you, I encourage everyone to watch some Abraham Hicks videos on Youtube at the very least; have an open mind, and you are bound to expand through surrendering to the present moment and receiving what comes through. We have access to all the information Abraham provides through Esther and Jerry, as Abraham is simply a universal consciousness that Esther taps into, so I encourage you all to get into meditating as well and develop that relationship with your own consciousness. You may surprise yourself!
