We had the good fortune of connecting with Melanie Baker and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Melanie, how has your perspective on work-life balance evolved over time?
My work balance has drastically changed over the last 9 months. Covid had flipped our lives around on our heads. I have three children in elementary school that are now home 100% of the time. I have to balance children, school, being a dental hygienist 2 days a week as well as cake! I’ve learned to micromanage my time even more than ever! I am also a Girl Scout leader for the past 6/7 years! I try and balance my life so there is peace. It’s very difficult with Covid and limited activity but we have managed, how I don’t KNOW!
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am a self taught baker. I have always loved to bake and create art with cake. I started in my closet with my Easy Bake Oven. My mother is a fantastic cook and baker. She always was in the kitchen baking something delicious. I have learned from trial and error. I would figure out what worked and what didn’t. It was a lot of practice and determination to be perfect. I strive to deliver delicious and beautiful cakes and cookies. I set myself apart by delivering only the best ingredients and beautiful art with cake. I practice practice practice till its perfect. As I grew in my skills I grew in clientele. It took time and patience but it paid off when I was on Food Network in 2019 on Halloween Cake-Off Monsters Wedding episode. It was a huge accomplishment. I was pushed to limits I never imagined I could complete.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Being in Santa Clarita I have a such wonderful places right here in our city. We can go to Old Town Junction in Newhall then spend time at Magic Mountain. I would take them on some beautiful hikes in Rice canyon or bike ride in Towsley. I’m sure Korea town would be a great place to go and walk around Hollywood to see the sites!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My husband and my children as well as my loudest supporters Ann Moore, We’ve been best friends since 4th grade and Tracey Denzel Best Friends for 41 yrs!
