We had the good fortune of connecting with Kibrom Birhane and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kibrom, what makes you happy? Why?
Playing and creating music. Because i see my self all the time never get tired of playing and creating music
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am an Ethiopian musician/composer based in LA my style of music is called Ethio-Jazz. What set me apart is the unique sound I have focusing on EthioJazz, I also Sing, and play different Ethiopian traditional instruments. I was nominated for African music Award in three different categories parallel to African music giants like Salif Keita and Hugh Masekela. I got where I am right now by trusting God and not giving up. It was never been easy and I am not expecting to be easy either. I have learned to be patient, humble, how to get along with different people and keep going. I have an up and coming album which I am very excited about watch out for that.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Santa Monica beach or Arts District Downtown LA. I will take them one day for a hike at Griffith Observatory and go eat some Ethiopian food at little Ethiopia, Another day will take them to Venice beach for sure, Blue Whale Jazz club and since I live in Pasadena I will take them to Huntington Library.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My older brother Abrham Birhane and Wife Etsegenet Tadesse.
