We had the good fortune of connecting with Mychael Anthony and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Mychael, have you ever found yourself in a spot where you had to decide whether to give up or keep going? How did you make the choice?
For me, giving up is not an option. When it comes to living out my dreams or happiness, there is no giving up. Sometimes there’s reevaluation, but no giving up. I’ve been blessed to see some success from my hustle & that motivates me to keep pushing. Of course there’s times where I wanna give up, but then I’ll ask for God’s direction & guidance. Through mediation & prayer I end up getting the answers I need. Being a Comedian, I’ll give a joke a couple of tries on stage before I remove it from my act. If a joke doesn’t work, I’ll shelve it until I find a better ending. Kinda like solving a puzzle. You might not have all the pieces. Just keep living life & you will eventually find the pieces you need to complete the puzzle. Patience is a virtue & I’m not a patience person. I’m still a working progress. Like they say, Good things come to those who wait. You have to believe in yourself & give it your all. Jamie Foxx once said “Those who quit are the ones that doesn’t make it!”
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I owe a lot of my success to my squad & the haters. Leaving my home to purse my dreams wasn’t easy. I was blessed to have a lot of GOOD people in my corner, but I also had some haters that were praying on my failure. I think what helps me overcome some of my obstacles was knowing that I have people wanting me to quit. That makes me do the opposite. I refuse to give them that pleasure. Can’t lie getting some recognition & shutting the haters up feels GREAT! Success is the best revenge.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Oh, I’m giving them the Treatment! They have to take an Uber from LAX because I’m not picking them up, but I’ll chauffeur them all over LA once they arrive at my doorstep. For Lunch we would walk to Sushi Dans for some bomb sushi. Then we would walk it off at City Walk & go people watching. Check out the latest movie at the AMC theatre & possibly fall asleep because of the super comfy chairs. Wake up the next day, grab breakfast at IHOP or Roscoes, then a fun day at 6flags, since I’m a season pass holder I can bring a friend for FREE!!! I’m a roller coaster junkie. For dinner we would hit Hollywood & have my chef buddy give us the treatment at a fancy restaurant on Sunset Strip. After dinner get some laughs at the Hollywood Improv!! Wouldn’t send you home until you saw some of the beautiful beaches!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Aw, man! I definitely wanna give my Mama a shout out for passing on her passion & knowledge to me. I wouldn’t be the man I am today without the lessons & ass whoppings she gave me. My pop for his constant support. Making him proud keeps my fire lit. I have a GREAT support team. To all my friends & family members that keeps it honest with feedback to help me be a better version of myself. My Entertainment family, My boy Craig Michaelson for helping me navigate in the acting world. My Agent Hugh Leon for giving me a chance & his friendship. All my friends at CTC. Adam Ray for showing me the game. D.L. Hughley for the advice & taking me on the road. Russell Peters for being REAL. My brothas Anyi Malik, Greg Edwards & Quincy Johnson II. Jay Mandyam for being with me through this crazy walk in Hollywood. Theo Von for having my back since day one. The Hollywood Improv for welcoming into their family. The whole Comedy community!
