We had the good fortune of connecting with Gabrielle Furlong and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Gabrielle, let’s start by talking about what inspires you?
I’m inspired by the people with a feisty (but kind!) attitude; people who continue to grow and improve themselves and who never stay stuck where they don’t want to be. These are the type of people who want to be in a good place and always get better, while helping others get there too and they truly make the world a better place. I’m inspired by the fact that there we never have to stop learning and how there are so many aspects of life to continually be explored. I’m inspired by the outdoors. Whether I’m at the beach, in the mountains or just getting some sun, something about it brings out my creativity and good feelings. (And bonus if there are animals/critters involved). I am inspired by expressing gratitude and the ability to realize all that I have and also how far I’ve come in life. We always have something to be proud of, within ourselves and we also always have something that is going right. Lastly, am also inspired by the cutest little people I know, who are always inspired by me right back (my kids). They are capable of becoming more and more amazing everyday and I love being their role model and watching their growth…and they definitely hold me accountable!

What should our readers know about your business?
How I got to where I am today is what I am most proud of. I started off, 11 years ago, going into fitness as a means to help people lose weight…very general. I did not have much knowledge about how to find clients or even what goes into a business. You learn quickly though, that is for sure! Through patience, continual learning and researching, trial and error with my own fitness programs and even the personal aspects such as self-discovery, the business has expanded and become something that people find they truly needed. What I love about it is that so many people can benefit from the personal programs that are created for them and that I have dove in to ALL of the aspects of health, which I did not start off doing. (Again, I went in it to simply help people lose weight.) So NOW, what does the business look like? It is based on being more aware of how your everyday movements are affecting you and how your body feels. It takes into account any small changes that can be made, to get you feeling better. We train the body to heal and move in a more efficient way, so that it will respond better to even everyday tasks and you are not living with pain. If you don’t yet have pain, we work to prevent pain from happening in the future. Many people are walking around with postural abnormalities and don’t realize the chance of injury for them has now increased. It is literally my passion to bring this awareness to people so that they can feel better in their bodies and not be in pain or not be so tired or weak. Then comes the fitness side. I help people train to be what they want to be- whether that’s stronger, more athletic, increasing their muscle mass or having more flexibility– and sometimes it is something as simple as wanting to lose weight. I teach group classes at various facilities and also love to talk nutrition and healthy ingredient swaps. We don’t diet, we don’t cut out foods you love, but we focus on changing habits and making your body run more effectively, by what nutrients you personally need to introduce, or consume more or less of. These nutrients are readily available and that’s what I help people explore. It’s all about all dimensions of health…physical health is important, but mental and emotional health have to be also be factored in, in order for our optimal health.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Either camping and boating at Lake Cachuma, or Hot-air ballooning in Temecula. My friends and I love an adventure. For something more local, I love hiking through Griffith, or we would take a drive through Topanga Canyon, stopping at a local gem like Cafe on 27, or Topanga Living cafe and visiting some of the locally-owned shops as well, ending with a trip to the beach of course! Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
All of my clients who have worked with me the past 11 years, whether it was for a couple months, or many years, you are all the biggest part of my growing as a trainer/coach. You have believed and trusted in my ability to change your life and allowed me to be a stepping stone (or several), as we worked together towards your personal health journey. This takes vulnerability, confidence and a lot of willpower to start and I owe a shoutout to every single one of you! I also want to give a shoutout to YMCA, Fit Body Boot Camp, and all of the other businesses who have given me the opportunity to create fitness classes for our community. I love trying new things, whether that’s within my business, or just in general, I’m always up for a new challenge. Thanks to them and other facilities, I ended up exploring this and coaching these fitness classes has been so great for me and has added another piece to my work experience that I didn’t know I needed and would end up loving!
