We had the good fortune of connecting with Hollie Hart and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Hollie, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
Risk is what keeps my work moving. Especially in the fashion industry, everything is constantly changing and evolving so you have to adapt and try new things. I’m also afraid of ever staying complacent. I always want to grow and improve. I think as artists we can get stuck in our heads a lot of the time, so having people around you to offer another set of eyes and perspective is key!

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’m interested in sensibility and things that are emotionally charged, even if that means shooting a dress or a moisturizer. When artwork really affects me it’s because it keeps me guessing and asking questions, so my hope is that when someone walks away from my work they have to think about it a little.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I always tell my friend that it’s the people not the places that matter to me. I don’t need to do a million things if someone comes to visit. The best time is when you are with someone who you can do nothing or anything with, without expectation or an itinerary. The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I wouldn’t be where I am today without Randal Thurston. He was my professor in art school and helped shape the artist, and person, that I am today. He is an incredible artist in Boston, MA. You can view his work at http://www.randalthurston.com
