We had the good fortune of connecting with Shalene Bain and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Shalene, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
I have always been a creative thinker, a wonder in thoughts and imagination. I have the ability to see something in my head and create it in real life. I didn’t realize my ability to create would be with chemistry of organic ingredients but somehow after having my children that is where my path lead me. My children had some skin issues and as a mom I was going to find the solution my own way, an organic healthy way that was farm fresh.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I love my craft and giving back to people. What I’m able to do through NoSH BoDY is connect people to organic ingredients that are healthy and safe for the whole family. We have so many pollutants around us and we are constantly putting harmful things on the skin, the largest organ of the body. We need to take a stand and have more restrictions on what’s allowed in skincare and our food too. Most organic skincare lines are not as effective and you don’t see lasting results. I have made each item to see results, feel results and know it’s working. It’s literally “food for the skin” and NoSH being Yiddish for food or snack. Also the acronym for Nourishing Organic Simple Healthy the ingredients and the products speak for themselves. I would love the world as a whole to start to do the clean beauty movement, replacing things in the home with safe ingredients. It feels so good to not worry about long term effects that these things can do to ourselves and our family. We are finding out more and more that cancers and infertility are coming from what we are using on the body as well as putting into the body. We have to rake control of the rings we can since the regulations won’t be changing soon.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I love Orange County as a whole, it’s so different than my hometown of Monterey, California. There’s some special little places like walking Rodgers Gardens with a fresh hot tea, going down to Balboa and taking the ferry across on foot or driving. It’s so cool to load up the car though. Crystal Cove is spectacular and the Crystal Cove Shake Shack is a fun lunch spot. I love Bear Flag Fish Co. too and for dinner Wasa In Newport Beach is the best! Hitting up Laguna Beach for a town walk or the shops on 17th Street. There’s so many hidden gems in this town! Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My husband Michael Bain, MD is the Yin to my Yang. He’s Western Medicine and I’m Eastern. He’s shown love and support for my passion as well as given me praise when create something amazing. He’s very proud of what I do and my accomplishments and it’s so wonderful to have someone like him who’s so brilliant in his own field, as a plastic and reconstructive surgeon he is extremely intelligent. Making him proud makes me feel so good!!
