We had the good fortune of connecting with Kendal Brenneman and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kendal, is there a quote or affirmation that’s meaningful to you?
I actually keep a document full of quotes I love, and it’s difficult to pick a favourite, but this one is one of them: The reasonable man adapts himself to the world; the unreasonable man persists in trying to adapt the world to himself. Therefore all progress depends on the unreasonable man. George Bernard Shaw I am often told to be more reasonable, to accept things the way they are, but I find it very difficult. I like that Mr. Shaw believes in the unreasonable man (and woman) and reminds us that this is how we make positive change in the world. Not by simply adapting, but by questioning and demanding more of life.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I definitely still see myself as only partway through my journey. But I’m grateful for the time I’ve had to figure out more about who I am and what I want, what excites me and what I want to create. I moved to Los Angeles from Pennsylvania to be an actress, and after several years decided I wanted to spend time abroad in France. I’ve been back and forth for several years now, still pursuing acting, but also feeding other curiosities and talents. Several years ago I did something I’d been wanting to do for quite a long time and began to transition my wardrobe into a vintage wardrobe, mainly 1940’s and 1950’s. I would document my pretty new things on Instagram, and began a photography project where I recreated old Hollywood photos of actresses like Audrey Hepburn and Hedy Lamarr. It seems kind of small, but I’m always proud of the photos I create, and love it when my followers appreciate them. Last year I was honoured even more by being included in the book Always Audrey, along with several of my photographs. I recently decided to start sharing my vintage and sustainable lifestyle on YouTube, and that has been slowly taking off, so I’m very excited about that. I may not have found the success that I was looking for (yet!) but I feel like I’ve gotten closer to finding my place and my purpose in the world.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Honestly I can be a bit of a homebody and never know where I would take anybody if they visited Los Angeles! I think we would search out some good vegan food, and sushi (I know, I know… but I like both!!). We could go on a hike and a picnic in a couple places. Or the beach, maybe up at Zuma. We could go swing dancing at the Lindy Groove or Joe’s Bar. Maybe go to the Edison or Clifton’s later in the evening…

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would say thank you to everybody who encourages me in what I do, the people who support my photography and videos and everything I create.
