We had the good fortune of connecting with TILLI and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi TILLI, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
In the pursuit of happiness… I understood for myself that it was probably the best way for me to use everything I’ve got … or have been given and strive for. I’m always learning. My voice and artistry are what have pulled me through all kinds of life events … it’s not boring and it suits my temperament as it is a loose enough framework for me to grow within . The more I grow … the more I can give and share . The entire cosmos is a Symphony … it’s always playing in the background. I’m fascinated with it.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I feel like the music and the arts come Through us … So I do what I can to make myself available to it . Music is a collaborative event mostly, whereas painting is more solitary … I might hear it in my head and heart but to bring it all the way through is a different experience! That takes a certain focus and inspiration and it is a process . I love making the song itself … and the alchemy of bringing it in from the air … the visuals are also a big part of the experience… videos are like little movies … the whole thing has to get you “There “ I am really excited about the upcoming songs we are recording and a graphic novel I’ve been working on. What sets me apart from others is me …I bring to it my own longing … and desires . I like to move people . Dancing is very important …So if I can get people to move their bodies… Victory ! To move anything …like someone’s feelings or someone’s rhythm is great . And you must never give up … always pushing forward … there are usually obstacles to overcome so I let the desire to create and hear the music pull me through .
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I live in Hollywood so usually we go hiking into different canyons …it’s good to take people to a high viewpoint so they can see the wonder of it all ! Sometimes we go straight to the Batcaves in the canyons and to see the Hollywood sign … then it’s fun to go have rock ‘n’ roll Mexican food at El Compadre… which is across the street from the Guitar Center. There’s usually a lot of cruising involved … The Sunset Strip and Hollywood Blvd. at night is exciting along with a trip through Beverly Hills and Rodeo Dr. Musso and Frank’s on Hollywood Blvd. is a wonderful Old Hollywood restaurant and The Hollywood Forever Cemetary is pretty amazing … Silent film stars to Rock and Rollers are right there along with the peacocks… and movie nights in the summer are projected outside on a giant mausoleum. How Hollywood . Then let us not forget the famous PCH and the Pacific Ocean There’s a lot to do here… Music is going on everywhere … it’s a cultural mashup and the most amazing thing about it is that there is nature almost everywhere you turn. I dig that .
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Where does one begin the thousand mile list of gratitude … there are so many people and inspirations to tip my hat to . I’ve had so much help from close Friends who showed up tirelessly to Late night gigs and cheered us on . (that’s love) Band members of TILLI and THE TITANS, Sadie-Dean:Guitar, Chris Camacho:Bass, and Sergio Gonzales:Drums who are fearless and present. ( And ready to rock when concerts open again ! ) Photographer Moshe Brakha for all the great photos and to Karan Singh for all the new music and multi media ! Many other great musicians and singers for showing me how to approach music and recording in an inspiring way . Fans : It moves me to hear from fans that the music is doing something for them.
