We had the good fortune of connecting with Abraham Perez and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Abraham, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I was working at a hospital as a technician. One of the branches of the hospital was an orthopedic center and the patients that would come in were not just elderly types in their 80’s and 90’s, Some of them were in their 30′ to 50’s. They would be getting surgeries for plantar fasciitis, sciatica, hip surgeries, and arthritis. Now don’t get me wrong, when bone is tracking on bone, yea, get surgery. But if we are talking about accumulated dense fascia and scar tissue, then these things can be managed.

I see these older people walking around Huntington Gardens, with horrendous posture, Looking down at their feet, kyphosis seems like it would be the outcome of all the people I loved, and I wanted to do something about it. I have been writing and studying Fascia for 15 years and knew there was a correlation between posture and and the connective tissue of the body.

After having studied with several professionals in the bodywork field I began to develop my own niche and technique. When I started getting immediate results, I decided to quit the hospital and focus solely on bodywork.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
The thing that differentiates me from other bodywork is results. I have so many patients who say that they feel twenty years younger after my body work because of lack of pain from pinched nerves and postural correction. People who had accidents several years ago that improved in just the first session. Some people have quick turn arounds and I see them once and they are good, of course some more serious cases need more work, I am always honest and realistic about expectations. On the same note, if a patient doesn’t get results in three sessions then they have something I cannot help and may need to see a different professional.

I am really excited to get my work publicized one day. If we learned proper self care at a young age, lets say in PE, then we could live longer healthier lives with minimal postural pain!

To quote Besser Van Der Kolk “The body keeps the score”, everything that you have ever experienced, any trauma or accident that has befallen you is stored some way in the body. Fascia, Holds us fast to these moments and unless treated, can continue to keep us in the past, in a manner of speaking.

For instance, You sprained your ankle when you were ten, when you are twelve you start getting knee issues, you play soccer or are in track and these muscles compound. Fast forward to high school, you’re sporting hip and low back issues that carry on till you’re old enough to wanna do something about it.

If I could impart anything to the world is take care of your body. I know that sounds trite, but doing stretches even five minuets a day, twice a day. Do a pushup or ten, jumping jacks, squats. If you’re injured find a way to keep the muscles mobile. If I have learned anything is that stagnation is death, and your body is a garden. Fascia builds and densifies preventing aspects of the muscles from receiving life giving nutrients. The muscles get inflamed, numb, and atrophy as a result. The good news is, the body can spring back to life we just have to help it get out of its way, and support circulation, range of motion, and proper posture.

My brand quite simply is our evolution, let’s not devolve to our neanderthal heritage. Recalibrate what restricts us.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I live in Los Angeles so there is no end of fun things to do and see here, however its covid, so I don’t get out much. I was a sushi chef for seven years so its likely I would start our day with a nice long walk, make us some food, and try and steal away to some festival back when they were still going on.

I am lucky enough to have a tightly vaccinated community, and we throw house parties complete with Dj’s. I love to get a good dance on.

I am looking forward to our cities opening up and getting my karaoke on again, because I BELIEVE IN A THING CALLED LOVE!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
First and foremost, my mother who taught me how to listen to the body at the age of four. And the Genius of Flexibility, Bob Cooleys work changed my entire approach to the body.
