We had the good fortune of connecting with Amanda Rome West and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Amanda Rome, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
The thought process behind starting my own businesses has always been to BE UNIQUE and establish a large online presence. I run multiple businesses, from my music career to my comedian/acting dabbling to my creating TV/film/music video productions to running social media channels to pumping out content/podcasts/photographs , and more- I am a ball of energy, which is how I can do it all. I have a passion for creativity and that’s ultimately what all of my business ventures have in common. However, my work has little in common with that of many others these days: it is LOUD, PROUD, and UNAPOLOGETIC! In a world of so many copies, why not be an original? I have incorporated my ADHD, artistic eye, and work ethic into all of my various businesses by exploring and often combining different elements into each medium. I just received my Bachelor’s of Science from USC’s Business Cinematic Arts program (Marshall & SCA), and plan on using my degree + artistic talents to shed light on important yet somewhat still hush-hush topics, such as discovering one’s religious identity, modern feminism as it applies to the music and entertainment industries, and succeeding in one’s entertainment career in Hollywood despite all that’s going on with COVID-19.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My career has several different elements to it, but the main two are TV/film production and being a Jewish rapper/content creator. What sets me apart from others is that I have worked at so many incredible entertainment companies, from Heroes & Villains Entertainment to Psycho Films to Shiny Penny and more, but I also am an artist who performs at popular LA venues like the Viper Room, shoots outrageous music videos, and runs several social channels, and more with a large following, my Westies. I also produce all my own music videos as well as am currently producing a $22M budget animated series that’s in development right now. I got here to who I am today by working HARD. One of my most formative experiences in entertainment was in the fashion world, specifically when I was the runway photographer for Virgil Abloh’s brand Off-White in Florence during the summer of 2017. He hired me because I approached him and directly told him I admired his work and showed him my photography- he LOVED it and brought me on the team that day. One of the most important lessons he taught me was to know my self-worth and never settle for less than what I deserve, but at the same time, remain humble & hustle hard. I apply that to my work ethic daily. I have been presented with many challenges especially as a Jewish woman pursuing her producing career while also maintaining a little bit of a wild side/mystery around her with her music, but I have never let that stop me- I always believe in myself, work hard, and never give up- oh, and I’m always learning. Some lessons I’ve learned along the way are: perfect practice makes perfect, stay YOU, and don’t be discouraged if someone tells you “NO!”- keep pushing. My brand is all about persevering, loving yourself, and embracing your heritage. Any great local spots you’d like to shoutout?
If my best friend was visiting the area and I wanted to show them the best time ever, I would take her to the Hollywood Walk of Fame, Malibu, the Santa Monica Pier, out to dinner at Nobu, and more. I would want to make sure that we had a blast but also had some time to chill out and enjoy LA for what it is: paradise. In my view, some of the most fun and interesting things to check out in LA are spontaneous: it really depends what events are going on at that time.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Yes! I want to shout out my amazing boyfriend of almost 2 years, Jordan Saria Oram, with whom I am @thehollywoodpowercouple on IG. Jordan is an actor/realtor from Norway and he has such a different perspective on life. He always pushes me to think outside the box and consider combining various artistic elements together to ultimately create my best work, always. We have written two of my favorite songs thus far in my career, “Ashkenasty” and “Get Back to Twerk,” together (stream my music on all platforms, Amanda Rome West), and they were some of my best songwriting experiences ever. We can just be creative together like that. I love him, he deserves all the credit in the world for the multitude of incredible film, content, music, and art projects we have created together. We just moved to Hollywood together and are so excited to continue to further our entertainment careers both individually and together.
