We had the good fortune of connecting with Amapola M.S. MSW Ramirez and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Amapola M.S. MSW, how has your perspective on work-life balance evolved over time?
In my life as a Chicana multifacted, I have learned that life is not about balancing. Life is about implementation and the importance of implementing time, love, respect, self-care, self-love, quality time with family, and all those necessities we need to live a fufilled life. I learned that balancing life created many frustrations for me, why? because there was no way I would keep the “balance” steady. I now implement what I need in my life for my career, self-care, family, friends, etc. I am in charge of my life along with God ofcourse and it is my responsibility to “implement” what I need and want. I asked myself, how is balancing helping me create change within myself and others? As a therapist and buisnessowner, the balancing consept was not as functional as I thought it would be. I felt the need to keep up with “perfectionism” and there is no such thing as a perfect human nor perfect anything. I now implement the realistic intentional productive habits that work for me on a day by day basis.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am a Chicana Psychotherapist who graduated from University of Southern California in 2019. I also had the blessed opportunity to complete my second Masters of Human Services in 2015. I am the founder of Abudnace Guidance Center, which was established in 2008. I am always determined to spread mental health awareness to my Chicanx & Latinx community. As La Chicana Therapist, I have been able to create a space for those who can relate to the Chicanx & Latinx culture and language. Many clients have shared their appreciation of my services, which is my fuel. I have learned the importance of creating culturally relatable spaces, such as Mujeres Revolutionary Circle, Niñas En Revolucion, and La Chicana Wellness program. I consider myself a multifacted Chicana because of the example my mother and father gave me as a child. I witnessed their consistent struggles and triumphs, which provided me with the most valuable lesson of consistency and hard work. As a professional, I have also learned the importance of self-care. The implementation of self-care is not just for me but for my family, friends, and clients. The way I treat myself is a reflection of the choices I make with others. I believe in the good of all humans, which is why I will always continue to also believe in myself too.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would definitely suggest La Placita Olvera located in Los Angeles City and enjoy all of the food stands and stores. It’s a historical location they would definitely enjoy. I would also suggest, Santa Monica pier for a stroll on the beach or a ride on the Ferris wheel and local restaurants and stores.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
The shoutout is dedicated to my familia and all of my Chicanx & Latinx community.
