We had the good fortune of connecting with Erin Mastopietro and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Erin, what role has risk played in your life or career?
The biggest risk I’ve taken in my life was choosing to start a business with my romantic partner at the time, after just 1 year of dating. Starting a business alone is a huge risk and then adding on the commitment to involve a personal relationship is taking it to the next level. I could not be happier with my choice. The challenge, excitement and freedom of working for myself is beyond any dream job I could have imagined. Working with my now fiance Michael has expanded our relationship in the best way possible. I am grateful for taking a risk that could have easily been dismissed as a crazy idea.
What should our readers know about your business?
I started Dope Dog in 2017 alongside my partner Michael. We set out with the intention of creating a product we wished we had for our own dog, James. What started as an innocent search for a quality wellness product resulted in the creation of what is now an entire line of CBD products deigned specifically for dogs. Dope Dog now is able to help thousands of dogs suffering from separation anxiety, joint pain, and post-surgery recovery like in our dog James’ case. I’ve learned many lessons over the 3 years that we’ve been in business. When things get crazy, my north star is always going back to the why behind Dope Dog. Making dogs happy is our “why” and that steers me in the right direction when making important decisions about our products and our brand.
Any great local spots you’d like to shoutout?
This is a fun one! I’m in LA native and so many spots in the city hold special meaning for me. If I was planning a getaway for a friend in Los Angeles, I would have them experience the magic of a canyon ride through Laurel Canyon, an intimate dinner at Pace, the lovely Italian gem at the base of the canyon, and then a night out in Hollywood. The following day would of course include a Malibu beach excursion, ending the afternoon with some fish tacos and beers al fresco at The Reel Inn. And lastly, no visit to LA is complete with out a dinner at Bestia with 2 orders of the bone marrow pasta. (Make your reservation now!!)
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’d love to shout out my partner Michael for being a champion of risk and innovation. Being a bit risk-adverse myself, his enthusiasm and out-of-box-thinking was just what I needed in creating a life of my own design.
