We had the good fortune of connecting with Angel Fleig and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Angel, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I pursued my career in photography because it is a gift, a gift that keeps on giving. The joy that photos bring to my engaged, married couples and families is something that I 100% thrive off of, it gives me life! These gifts are family heirlooms, stories and memories captured for generations beyond our time. This is why I chose this career, the joy it brings!

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am so proud of how far I’ve come today, this is my 20th year in the photography profession. I have gone through many ups and downs, and I have always come out of hardships on the bright side of things. I have gone through a recession, I will get through this recession, all with the love and support of my clients friends and family. I have learned So many lessons along the way. The one thing I will never stop doing is helping people that are starting out, I remember 20 years ago trying to get my foot in the door and the people that were there to help me and I will also remember the people that were not. I definitely want to be one of those people that give a steppingstone to people that are just starting and want to pursue their dreams and passion. I think what sets me apart from a lot of people is my huge heart, My compassion for others, and constantly giving back to my community in need. I am all about community over competition. Today I am where I am because I never gave up, when I was 18 years old I wanted a job at a Particular high end studio so badly that I called once a week for a full year until the studio owner finally asked me to come in and she hired me on the spot. She finally said to me on my last phone call, “you know kid, you never give up I want to meet you, I think it’s time!” Little did I know she was going to have me take her spot. And my journey began! Never give up!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Definitely along the coast! We would go to Café Habana, Paradise Cove and maybe some Neptunes Net! Take a couple of strolls on some piers and head up towards Santa Barbara! There are definitely a bunch of hidden gems in our area!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My shoutout goes to my family and mostly my grandfather! He set the foundation of photography in my life. He was an award winning photographer in our military! When I was 12 years old he placed my first 35 mm Pentax camera in my hands! I will never forget this moment. There was no turning back. My family has been my biggest strength and my loudest cheerleaders! I am also going to give a shoutout to my Tuesday Together group of Thousand Oaks, the amount of love and support through this group is unmeasurable! Thank you friends!
