We had the good fortune of connecting with Bethany Ugarte and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Bethany, we’d love for you to start things off by telling us something about your industry that we and others not in the industry might be unaware of?
Not everything is healthy for everyone. With IBS, even certain healthy foods can cause digestive upsets and can put a person into an IBS flare for days even weeks. For example, kombucha, chia seeds, and certain vegetables many consume as part of a healthy diet need to be avoided for gut health.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Being on my deathbed is not something I am proud or happy about in my past, but I am happy I survived and it brought me here today. Now, having gone through it, I can now help others in the same IBS situation and can honestly say “I understand”. Not only do I understand the pain others are going through, but I can also help them get through it and heal….and that to me is something that truly gives me joy beyond words! For year I struggled with digestive issues and not doctors were able (or willing) to help. Through years of nursing myself back to health through food and the guidance of my good friend who is also a holistic dr, I am here today and share my journey, healthy tips, recipes, and encouragement on Instagram. Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I’ve always been a homebody, even before COVID-19 happened. I normally didn’t eat out much due to my health and always wanted to cook my own food to know exactly what was in it and how it was cooked – now more than ever. However, I always encourage getting out in the sun, fresh air, and grabbing a cup of coffee or tea. Socializing is so important for our mental and even physical health! I never go out clubbing or to bars (I am pretty chill) but if a friend wanted to explore in my town, I would be the best host I could and allow them to take the reins.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My holistic Dr. Mohammad Nikkhah. He taught me so much and really opened my eyes to what it truly means to care for your gut.
