We had the good fortune of connecting with Brad Ungar and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Brad, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Starting SaveOnCannabis.com what I recognized coming from co-creating an online delivery service previously was that eCommerce was an inevitable aspect of the cannabis industry and an important aspect of the normalization. In an ever growing on-demand world where everything from groceries to car services are ordered through your app, the emergence of the legal recreational cannabis market was happening in parallel. The standard shopping experience for the price conscious individual online now naturally incorporates searching for coupons and deals. Cannabis in all forms is a higher cost item in a competitive market, so my thought was that more and more brands would have a need to showcase discounts and consumers would actively be looking for these deals. What better way to push the normalization and move from illegal to accepted than providing a shopping experience just like every other item on the web? At the beginning of the site a few years ago, I had already seen the value and interest in CBD from the dispensary side and had thought it would get more popular and accessible. I was unaware at how rapidly the interest and accessibility would happen and our site has been at the right timing to bring these brands into our platform. Now as there are an ever growing amount of CBD and cannabis related items debuting online we have expanded the site into an eCommerce product discovery tool with live inventory, which allows our visitors one place to browse all the online cannabis relevant products while also utilizing coupons. The goal is to offer users an easy discovery tool to see all the products available at the best pricing and allow brands a platform that is not as bias and competitive as fighting for Google rankings.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My career path has been anything but a straight path. While always being an extremely dedicated and hard worker, my history as an employee was always a “jack of all trades” but “master of none” which was seen as a risk by bosses as they all told me to focus on what I would want to do at the company long term. The reality was, I didn’t want to be an employee at a company forever and wanted to find my way to have my own business. Now as I run my own businesses I know that all entrepreneurs are really a jack of all trades to some degree. Through layoffs, quittings, and unemployment spells life has led me into a constant path of learning new skills which have all added up to an odd mix of talents that now seem to fit my career as an entrepreneur. My creative history in the film world, early age hobby of website making, and mobile app product management have all led to where I am now. It was never on my career path to be a digital cannabis expert or affiliate marketer, but it fits. Now as we have built the World’s largest online cannabis coupon code directory and eCommerce product discovery hub, my daily goal is to continue to build the tools which provide our visitors all the best savings possible. Visitors of Save On Cannabis should always see cannabis as accessible and affordable, as they shop all online brands from one platform.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
When I think of showing people Los Angeles my natural instincts is to show the Eastside since that’s where we lived last, but always need to bring them to the West so they can see the Ocean. In Los Feliz we would bring them to Alcove for a lunch and a taste of cake or stroll across the street to Jenny’s for some ice cream. For breakfast grab some tasty Homestate breakfast tacos and then watch sunset at Barnsdall Art Park with some wine and music. Heading to the West we would stop by Sprinkles cupcakes ATM and grab some cupcakes then head to Bay Cities (call in first) and order some Godmother’s for pick up to enjoy all of at Santa Monica beach Also, an extra thought is that if we were feeling like a brewery day we would sit out at the patio at the Golden Road Brewery in Atwater.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My wife. When I was working at the online dispensary it was time to move on and she supported me fully. This was not an easy decision as it was at a time when we were going to lose an income stream with a toddler and didn’t have a clear plan for what was to come next. This isn’t a story of someone who had a perfect business idea and ran from his job to pursue, instead it is the story of someone who needed to leave a job to make sure he was all he could be for his family and self. She stood by me when no path was clear and still stands by me as I learn daily and make mistakes regularly.
