Yi Yang | Film Editor/Director

My favorite quote is “I went to the woods because I wished to live deliberately, to front only the essential facts of life, and see if I could not learn what it had to teach, and not, when I came to die, discover that I had not lived.” from Henry David Thoreau. Surprisingly, the first time when I heard this sentence is when I watched the film Dead Poets Society. This quote means a lot to me because it significantly shaped my value of time, or more precisely, my value of life. Read more>>

Leanne Baum | Founder, Pure Earth Pets

My favorite quote is “do everything once” because I never want to have regrets in life. That’s how I started my business, I took a risk, tried, and found success in it! There is no success if you don’t try, so many people get hung up on taking the first step, taking the risk, that they never even start. I like to dive right in and take the leap of faith! Alexandra Funes | Film Composer & Songwriter

“Attitude is a choice. Happiness is a choice. Optimism is a choice. Kindness is a choice. Giving is a choice. Respect is a choice. Whatever choice you make makes you. Choose wisely.” ― Roy T. Bennett I like this quote because it is a reminder that, no matter what or who you are surrounded by; you are the one and only author of your life. It is also a personal reminder to always take a step back, remember that material success is irrelevant if there’s no humanity, attitude and passion within it. Read more>>

Mariana Peirano | Artist & teacher

“I thought I would be understood without words.” – Vincent Van Gogh This quote reflects how I feel about my art. I’m an introvert and so it’s not easy for me to express my feelings. The process of creating art fills a void, a need; it becomes a healing process and the final product mirrors those feelings. At the same time , due to the subjective nature of art , the viewer will take from the art what it’s relevant to her. Read more>>

Chris McElroy | Film & TV Composer

“You never master anything. You practice, get as good as you can, and then you hope your kids do better.” This was a rather tongue-in-cheek quote I got in my college days from a mentor of mine, and it’s a funny way of not only making myself humble about my craft but driving me to keep experimenting and pushing the boundaries of music. I will be a lifelong student of music, and I will never pretend to know everything about it. Plus, I love the optimism of my kids doing better than me one day! Not just my kids, but the next generation of composers as well. As they say – pay it forward. Read more>>

“When I liberate myself, I liberate others. If you don’t speak out ain’t nobody going to speak out for you.” This quote is from Fannie Lou Hamer who I consider a significant civil rights inspiration for her Freedom Farms. It’s affirming to me as it encourages me to continue to speak up for myself and speak out against injustices that prevail among my community with volume and vigor. Read more>>

Nicole Margulis | On-Camera Actor & Voice Over Artist

There is a marvelous quote by Bette Davis: “Without wonder and insight, acting is just a trade. With it, it becomes creation.” Personally, this thought magnifies what it is that pulls me towards acting and character building. It’s all about creation. Building a character from scratch is exhilarating because you get to explore new perspectives and channel things within yourself that you may not otherwise get to explore. Voice acting is even more freeing because you truly can be anything, from an six eyed alien to bullfrog, and everything in between is pure play. Read more>>

Coach Dee Price | Speaker/Life Coach/Healer

The phrase I utilize most now is; “If it hurts, its not healed!” This is the foundation of my entire practice. It is a simple statement yet, it is profound. It caused me to start on my own journey to live pain-free. But what I came to realize is that pain has a purpose – pain is an indicator! When we experience pain in our bodies, it is indicative of a malfunction. If the pain didn’t appear, our likelihood to survive a ruptured appendix would be zero. Read more>>

Yanique The Consciousness Doula | Spiritual Facilitator

I do! One of my absolute favorite quotes is by Henry David Thoreau. It says, “Go confidently in the direction of your dreams! Live the life you have imagined.” For me, this quote affirms that we receive our dreams and imaginings as guidance from the Universe. Thoreau was an advocate for individuals tapping into and living from an empowered place of liberation. My work at The Consciousness Doula is in this same vein. The work of helping us birth a new reality is about helping us realize that our reality starts with us. Each human being walks around with and continues to recreate the reality that is known to them.
