How do you define success?

Most people say they want success, but when you ask them what success means you get wildly different responses. We recently asked some of the best and brightest in our community to tell us about how they define success and have shared their responses below.

In a world that is constantly communicating, I believe true success lies in creating something that actually resonates—something that sparks a meaningful conversation and has the power to endure. When building a disruptor like The Green Garmento, it would be easy to measure success by units sold. But for me, success is about shifting perspective—about creating an entirely new category, challenging long-standing habits, and inspiring people to rethink their relationship with plastic. I define success as creating something meaningful that leaves an impact on people while continuing to grow personally and professionally. My personal definition of success is happiness and comfort. The reason for that being is because no matter how successful you are in business, it’s the stuff that money cannot buy that matters most. Zig Ziglar once said “With money you can buy a bed, but not comfort”. He also said multiple things that money can buy material goods, but not the way a person feels. For me, giving up is not an option when I’ve made a true commitment. If I gave my word, that means something. No matter how hard it gets, no matter what obstacles come up, I believe you see it through to the end. That’s about integrity. It’s about discipline. I think one of the most important aspects of an artistic career is perseverance. Sometimes it’s easy to be hard on yourself, but when you have a calling it is important to continue working toward your goals and never give up. For my case, I know that I intend to continue working as a composer and musician most likely throughout the rest of my life, because it’s the thing I love and I don’t see myself doing anything else. One thing that helps me stay on track when having a bad day or I am doubting myself is to look back at my previous accomplishments, because it’s easy to normalize your achievements and just aim for bigger goals, but I think it’s important to look back and acknowledge that the accomplishments you have achieved in the past are significant milestones in an artistic career.
