Jonathan Dassonville | Coach & Filmmaker

I have read that quote 15 years ago, in a time where life wasn’t always a bed of roses. I was looking for purposes, meanings, a call for action, and I bumped onto that : “People say that what we’re all seeking is a meaning for life. I don’t think that’s what we’re really seeking. I think that what we’re seeking is an experience of being alive, so that our life experiences on the purely physical plane will have resonances with our own innermost being and reality, so that we actually feel the rapture of being alive” From Jospeh Campbell, the power of Myth. It touched my heart, I naively thought that was written for me. (that was obviously a translation in french). I didn’t know at that time who Joseph Campbell was, And came to my mind, “stop seeking, stop thinking, just do. Take that leap of faith” Read more>>

Words that I have kept close to me since first hearing them are, “so I / will build” from “A Desolation” by Allen Ginsberg. I like the action of it. That when the circumstances of life are not what I have planned, not what I would have wanted, I will build anyway. Build around pain and disappointment but also build from the relationships I have, the lessons I have learned, the experiences I’ve had. I appreciate its simplicity and its acceptance. As someone with a lot of anxiety, the reminder of, “this is not the end of the world” is always helpful. I even got the words tattooed on me! Read more>>

“To be free to create without fear.”  & “Uncomfortability creates awareness.” — these are my most powerful mantras.  I use them constantly as a reminder in situations out of my control and when I feel overwhelmed or stuck or confused or lost. It centers my focus back to embracing the inevitable unknown and creativity in unassuming openness; and back to the music. Read more>>

” What stands in the way becomes the way.” – Marcus Aurelius This is my favorite quote because it taught me how to thrive in the face of adversity. Everyone faces problems and set backs in their lives; that is out of our control. But we can control how we respond to those set backs. So, instead of running away from obstacles, I use them to my advantage in any way I can. What stands in the way, becomes the way. Read more>>

Monique MO” Dutton | Professional Choreographer, Dancer and Consultant and on the Hit Show My Mane Problem on WeTV

I have the best quote and I live by it. The reads “You’ve got big dreams. You want fame. Well, fame costs. and right here is where you start paying in sweat.” Debbie Allen. Mrs. Allen is my all time idol. Not just in entertainment but in life. I respect how hard she works, loves and pushes everyone to be their best self. This quote means to me, you have to work hard, work at your craft and never give up. You don’t get what you want for free or without a challenge. The quote means the work you do, the work put behind your goals is how you will become successful and attain your dreams. I couldn’t imagine walking into a professional dance audition without training. Without, early mornings, late nights, blood, sweat, tears and joy of practicing my dance training. That just doesn’t happen. If you put in the work, respect your dance educators and put in equal efforts, anything is possible. I am living proof of that. Read more>>
