“Make Something of Substance” is a quote that I created a long time ago when I was exploring my own creative expression and vision. I believe in creating content that makes you feel something, that lights you up inside, that sparks inquiry or curiosity. I create with passion and heart. Everything that I create is meaningful and tells a story that others can be influenced by as to start their own inquiry within themselves. I believe we all want deeper connections, deeper meaning, and deeper purpose in our life. The work that I create is an embodiment of those simple human desires. Read more>>

“shitty first drafts” Anne Lamott from Bird by Bird Years ago, when I first started out as a writer, I read Anne Lamott’s book, Bird by Bird. In it, she has a whole chapter dedicated to “shitty first drafts” – the basic idea being that writers, often hobbled by the expectation that only brilliance should fill each page, can get overwhelmed by the pressure to be Shakespeare and end write nothing at all. Instead, Lamott urges writers to set their sights on a shitty first draft – just get something, even something shitty, down on paper and fix it later (rewriting is much easier than writing). I have several favorite quotes, but one of the best is the scripture, “for we walk by faith, not by sight.” (2 Corinithians 5:7) This works really well for those of us in entertainment or other fields where there is an element of “chance” or “luck.” Each and every day, you have to get up and work on your craft, your business, putting your “wares” out there. The sight part is, there are many, many days, maybe even years where you don’t “see” as much growth or gain as you desire. The faith part comes in knowing you are doing something worthwhile, something that will perhaps pay off one day and contribute to the greater good. Another quote I love is “Only what you do for Christ will last.” The spirit behind this isn’t just a religious notion, but rather the most important things we can do daily, and in terms of our legacy, are those things that you can point to as promoting the greater, higher things like, say, faith, hope, charity and love. My grandfather used to say “it’s not the things you do that you regret, it’s the things you don’t do”. That’s always stuck with me and is a phrase I especially remember when I find myself afraid to do something. It’s funny, but I think I’m afraid of regret now. Read more>>

I love the quote by Ralph Waldo Emerson, “Live in the sunshine, swim the sea, drink the wild air.” When I think about this free spirited viewpoint on life, it evokes a sense of freedom, adventure, and happiness deep in my soul. It reminds me of some of my best childhood memories that were spent at the beach in Southern California. To say it inspires my artistic expression is an understatement. Read more>>
