We had the good fortune of connecting with Eli Sickle and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Eli, any advice for those thinking about whether to keep going or to give up?
I think it comes down to being stubborn. My philosophy has always been to make the things that I like myself and believe that what I like is in good taste. Without that foundation I wouldn’t have confidence because its rare to get positive reinforcement immediately. I feel that if you keep hitting the same spot, eventually you break through! The trick is to keep hitting even when it looks like nothing is happening, at least I hope thats the case. How you arrive at that decision is less important in my opinion, you can be mad, stubborn, defiant or feed off the love of the people that support you, but keep grinding fam <3

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I like to show good technique whenever I can without being too obsessive. The story is not important to me but novelty and cleverness are. I aim to entertain, shock or inspire. Its never easy but without the challenges you don’t experience the satisfaction of overcoming them.

Any great local spots you’d like to shoutout?
Los Angeles has some of the most vibrant and diverse communities. I would want to play it by ear and read my guest. I always suggest visiting Olvera market, possibly following it up with some taco and birria spots around Boyle Heights, while checking out the murals. Of course Im gonna get them drunk and kick their ass in pool, duh! I love stand up and we would find a venue to watch something for free. Hit up Fryman Canyon for some great 360° views. Are we riding horses? If we are, shout out to Sunset Ranch! To stay in the saddle we can grab bikes and play some bike polo pickup with my local club. As someone obsessed with bikes we can continue with mountain biking or a group ride. Getting boujee with some fine dining at Osteria Mozza is a safe bet. If after that they’re not impressed i don’t think we’re besties anymore

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Captain Dave (@captdavey73), that old sea dog
