John Waters said “a no if free” I think about that all the time when I ask to be a part of something or put myself into the running for any opportunity. Like what the worst that could happen? Read More>>

My favorite quote is actually a Bible verse—Romans 8:28: “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.”
This verse isn’t just an affirmation for me; it’s an anchor. I’ve lived by it since I was young, and I remind myself of it daily. But in the moments when life feels like it’s working against me, I have to truly meditate on it. It has provided a solid foundation through every season of my life, reminding me that nothing I go through is wasted. Even better—it’s all working together for my good. Read More>>

I just watched an interview with Miranda July who has always been an inspiration since I was in the MFA program writing short fiction. Tan words on a brown background: “Perhaps the most valuable result of all education is the ability to make yourself do the thing you have to do, when it ought to be done, whether you like it or not.” Read More>>

The affirmation that I truly consider my favorite is one that emerged during the writing of my book, “God and The Self: Insights from Major Thinkers in the Western Philosophical Tradition.” But, while I had not named the concept at the center of this affirmation, I have lived by this notion almost all my life. This affirmation grows out of my life’s struggles. Ironically, it serves as a theological and psychological anchor that keeps me tethered to intellectual, spiritual, and personal foundations of strength. Read More>>

Author Laurie Anderson once said “Make the most beautiful thing you can everyday.” If you have decided to be a creative professional and express your humanity in abstract form as a living, motivation will dry up quickly. However, seeking to make a gift for someone, or create something that is personal and beautiful to you is essential. Whether I am playing Chopin on the piano, memorizing a monologue about a man unburdening his soul, or singing “The Greatest Showman” for an audition, it must be an outpouring of the beauty I am already pursuing. I don’t wake up and suddenly decide to create. I create daily, and sometimes it’s writing, or music, or prose. Read More>>
