We had the good fortune of connecting with Harmonie Krieger and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Harmonie, alright, so let’s kick it off with a deep question: what’s the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
I’ve learned so many vital lessons along the way! One of the most important things to always remember…is that life is a beautiful journey and not a destination. We are growing and evolving every day and continued learning is the true key to being happy. Just when we think we have one thing figured out, something else will ‘pop up’ and challenge us. I say, take on those challenges with grace and strength. Treat them as opportunities to push through and level up! All lessons show up for a reason and for me, I believe all of mine were right on time. Be open to seeing things through a different lens, as new perspectives will benefit you greatly. Many times, we have a vision for the way we want our life to look and let’s be honest, it doesn’t always go that way. The more you can let go of what you think the outcome should look like, the more adaptable you will be to change. Change is really the only constant we can count on and getting comfortable with the uncomfortable is the biggest gift you can give to yourself and to others. I’m so grateful for each opportunity and amazing person I have met along the way. It’s all played a role in my life and I can’t wait to see what the universe has in store for me next!

What should our readers know about your business?
Pop Your Shop is a full-service boutique agency that specializes in helping brands pop up in various locations, with the goal to increase awareness and create buzz around a product or service. We help facilitate the pop-up process from A to Z and can be a part of the entire lifecycle of the project or offer a la carte services. We work with clients in all industries, including Fashion, Beauty, Wellness, Hospitality, Tech and more. I think what sets us apart, is that we truly believe in every brand we work with and will develop a custom strategy to hit all the brand’s measurable goals. We love brands that create innovative solutions to make consumer’s lives easier. I’ve been seeing so many cool companies lately, it just blows my mind. Everyone is popping up these days and here’s why! It’s much more affordable for companies to invest in short-term leases rather than long-term commitments and we help them find their temporary dream location. It’s more affordable when you break it down and there’s a much lower risk with not being locked into a long term lease. The old brick + mortar retail model is definitely disappearing. Generating buzz is the name of the game and pop-ups create a buy it NOW mentality, with its exclusive offers and limited access. Brands get to test their new products and if something doesn’t work, they can replace it with an improved version. Consumers are so inundated by social media these days, that engaging in a LIVE experience, which extends your messaging in a physical sense is what it’s all about. We also work with impactful social influencers, who collaborate with brands to either host the pop-up or draw a niche audience to the location, increasing foot traffic and driving sales. We partner with other agencies as well to bring in the right influencers that speak to the brand’s voice.

How did you get to where you are today professionally. Was it easy? If not, how did you overcome the challenges?
I think I caught the entrepreneurial bug at age 12 when I started planning birthday parties for the kids I was babysitting after school. I realized quickly that I loved event planning and putting smiles on people’s faces! The LIVE experience was priceless. I’ve always enjoyed watching others immersed in fun settings, where they leave an event thinking about it for days. This was my passion and my calling! I always wanted to fuse my marketing and event background, so after years of being a TV Host for various networks, I landed at Angeleno Magazine, a luxury lifestyle brand that highlighted fashion, beauty, travel and hospitality. I was the event director and produced hundreds of events and got to interact with an incredible list of clientele. From building my contacts there, a lot of the brands were talking about pop-ups and how they wanted to pop up at our signature events. Then one day the lightbulb went off and I said that’s it…I’m starting my own Pop Up agency.

Saying this journey has been a smooth road would be quite comical. As an entrepreneur, you do it all in the beginning. It’s like a baby where you want to nurture it, control every action and know your decisions will affect everything. I think the most important thing I’ve learned, is to let go of the things you don’t do well and allocate those tasks out to talented people that can do them better. Doing everything yourself can be very overwhelming and the most successful entrepreneurs will tell you to hire the best people you can. I struggled a lot with letting go of certain aspects of the business that I knew just weren’t working. I also struggled with getting my new name out there. People in the industry knew me, but promoting a new concept on my own and selling my services at a good value was a whole different scenario. I’m so proud of what I built over the last six years. I think I surprised myself and that’s the true beauty. I’m here to tell you, if you can dream it…you can achieve it. The solidarity that accompanied this new venture was hard for me, since I’m such a social and outgoing person. My business model brings people together, so being behind my computer all day was not for me. I overcame that by working out of a co-working space and collaborating with like-minded women who felt exactly the same way. No matter what you want to accomplish, doing it TOGETHER is the golden ticket! As entrepreneurs, we need to keep ourselves motivated and driven, so when you have others to bounce ideas off of, the road is a lot easier! If I can give one piece of advice, it would be to Collaborate Collaborate Collaborate!

What do you want the world to know about you or your brand and story?
What’s lighting me up these days is a new extension of the business. I’m working on it as we speak, so I’ll disclose more details on this incredible empowering movement very soon. I’ll be birthing a new ‘baby’ and it’s name is…

Any great local spots you’d like to shoutout?
Being an event planner, I always love to explore & discover new spots in the city! There is so much to do in LA and the fun is endless. Some of my favs: Spending the day at a fun hotel pool and the new ones I’m loving lately are: The Edition and The ONE, both located in West Hollywood. Malibu is always great to take a dip in the ocean and then check out Rosenthal Wines, Nobu or Soho House Malibu. Dining & Cocktails: Restaurants: Republiqúe, Delilah, Koi, Boa, Cleo. Lively bars: Laurel hardware, Blue Collar, E.P. / L.P., Harriet’s (at the one hotel ) Museums: LACMA, The Broad. Dancing: Poppy’s, Shore Bar. I’m also loving the underground events that Fever has created, showcasing live orchestras, candelit concerts and pop up dining.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would love to acknowledge some incredible humans in my life that have helped support me endlessly. First and foremost, I want to thank my parents for raising my to be an independent, confident woman who was told as a little girl that she can be anything she wants to be. I recognize the freedom in that, now more than ever. My mom is the most loving, nurturing and free spirited woman I know. She is my hero and I always look up to her. Whenever I tell her about my dreams and aspirations, she encourages me to GO FOR IT! Her endless love and support has shaped who I am today in every aspect of my life. My dad definitely gave me the logical tools that I needed to go out on my own and start a business. He taught me about entrepreneurship at such a young age. He also taught me to read before any of the other kids in my class and now I know that early lesson has everything to do with my growth, development and mindset. I want to shoutout all the mentors I look up to and have asked advice of, the clients that gave me a chance when I was first starting out and the people who believed in me and pushed me to see my gifts, when I didn’t always see them.

Thank you to Kristi Kaylor of The Loft Entertainment for always giving me a platform to create magic. Shoutout to my incredible team that works endlessly when it’s event time, especially Chelsea and to all the vendors that I’ve had the pleasure of working with. I’m also thankful for every 9-5 job I’ve ever had prior, which gave me the tools I needed to venture out on my own. I also want to acknowledge my close friends, who are my extended family and have shown me that I have the power to do it all…if I just believe in myself & I DO! See, this is one of the most important parts of the journey. Without support, you just can’t do it all and you don’t have to. Find your tribe, your community, your inner circle and love on them. It will take you further than you could ever imagine. Most of all, I want to acknowledge MYSELF, for taking a chance on ME! We don’t always recognize our own power. I’m so grateful that I chose passion and drive over fear and I’m committed to that mentality moving forward, forever. To have the strength to go out and make it happen and know that my gift inspires other people to find theirs…is pure JOY!
