We had the good fortune of connecting with Jana Bunge and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jana, as a parent, what have you done for you children that you feel has had the most significant impact?
“Once a parent…always a parent.” Oh so true! As a parent of adult children (and grandparent of 7) – I firmly believe that our job as parents is never ending, but blessed responsibility. I’ve learned over the years that as I stay true to myself – be a person of integrity in all areas/relationships of my life – this is the most important legacy to pass on to my children. It’s been said that children “are like sponges” in the water bucket of life. Whatever their surroundings are – those will be soaked up by the “sponge”. Children are sensitive to the tensions/emotions between parents and are influenced by the way their parents interact. So our responsibility as a parent is to offer our children a sense of stability and security from which to experience the world. We are to navigate WITH them – the challenges, phases and hurdles that every age presents. And to help them through it – to grow up to be stable and independent adults. One of life’s greatest rewards is a strong family multi-generational unit – to be cherished and never taken advantage of…
What should our readers know about your business?
My father was a hairdresser – so I’ve grown up in and around the beauty business! I’ve been a working professional in this industry since 1984. With a background in commercial, video and print work – I began to include providing makeup/hairstyling for weddings in the early 2000’s. As the years progressed, I’ve added makeup/hair artists to our teams. We service Ventura, Santa Barbara, LA and Orange Counties – and are so blessed to have the most wonderful brides and bridal parties. We feel honored to share in the most important day of their lives! It’s been a steady road – sometimes smooth and sometimes very rocky. Overcoming struggles is part of this industry. The most important thing to remember – our goal is to meet/surpass the needs of our clients. And this business is about relationships…building and nurturing relationships with our clients, fellow vendors, and artist teams. When relationship blossom – so will your business! To the world…Jana and Co. Makeup and Hair Design is known for our quality work, personable artist teams and meeting and surpassing the needs of each client we come in contact with. I am proud and humbled to be part of this amazing industry!
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I’m the gal who will search out the best “locals” place – those little hidden gems with the best food and energy!! Fun eateries? In Malibu definitely Duke’s, and for a different vibe – try out Neptune’s Net! There are many local theaters that offer great live performances. One of my favorites is the Broad Theater in Santa Monica. Taking a drive on PCH toward Santa Barbara and beyond is always beautiful. And stopping off to walk down Main Street in Ventura is the best – live music at every turn, and yummy treats to enjoy. One of my favorite little hideaways is the Marina Beach Motel in Santa Barbara. A modest and sweet getaway just steps from the beach and boardwalk. Definitely a must for the beach lover!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
So thankful to my family, friends and staff at Jana and Co. Makeup and Hair Design! My parents as mentors, and ultimately grateful to the Lord Jesus who has made this all possible!
