We had the good fortune of connecting with Jay Parikh and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jay, how have you been affected by Covid-19?
It is essential for a filmmaker to be creative, which forms the basis for all their outcome. This creativity is believed to originate with a mind which is sound, peaceful & serene. Having said that, lockdown has been a blessing in disguise especially for me, wherein I have had time to focus on those aspects, which were seldom thought about. It gave me time to revisit my inner self which was the need for the hour. Lockdown certainly has shaken my financial stability by a drastic way, yet, I have taken this opportunity in a way to channelize positivity and deep thinking whereby my focus and ideas, both have dramatically been improved.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Every minute matters and the creative ideas can arise without a prior invitation. I often wish a day had more than just 24 hours to wrap up things. There are times when I had to burn the midnight lamp to keep things going as planned. Being in sets is like a meditation for me, where I don’t realise time passing by. Also having surrounded with so many creative minds, every minute matters! Currently we are working on the new season of web series called “Varta re Varta”. We believe to produce this film virtually as a significance of the “pandemic saga”. This is a way for us to prove that Indie films go on no matter which storm comes by, setting an example to the whole film fraternity to look and think beyond things and do the best.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
As an avid hiker and a mountain lover, I make it a point to get lost in the woods and mighty mountains whenever I find time. Of all the hike destinations, Bronson Canyon and Griffith holds a special place in my heart for all obvious reasons.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
It will be quite unfair if i have to pick only a few people who have helped me reach where I am today. But of-course my family has always been a strength to me and the entire cast & crew, my friends and well wishers – all of them need a big shout out!
