We had the good fortune of connecting with Jennifer Garcia and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jennifer, what role has risk played in your life or career?
Risk taking is an art that requires much practice. It’s challenging to reach a space of comfort with big risks, until you’ve practiced on smaller the smaller ones. It’s the small risks that give you the courage to step into risks of a larger capacity. As you continue taking risks, your confidence grows and eventually taking those huge risks won’t seem impossible! I’ve been taking risks my entire life. It’s part of the territory that comes with paving your own path. One of my first bigger risks was leaving my day job to solely pursue photography. It was a terrifying decision, but I found the courage to push through fear and change my life. My next huge risk came when I opened my natural light photography studio in Orange County, Spark Studios. A decision that changed the trajectory of my life in the best of ways! I’m thankful that I’ve practiced the art of risk taking throughout my life, so I’d have the courage and confidence to pursue the visions that pull at my heart.
What should our readers know about your business?
I attribute my creative success to my business abilities. Many artists aren’t built with both the creative and business side, which eliminates many from profiting from their art. My journey as an Orange County photographer has been sustainable because of my background in a business setting. I recommend that everyone gain experience in a business of some nature because you’ll learn skills that you can apply to your own creative business. When I opened my OC photography studio, Spark Studios, I had the confidence and knowledge to build a successful business because of my experience. You can’t fake experience, so carve out the time in your life to gain it!
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Being a long time resident of Huntington Beach, California, I love bringing my friends from out of town to Pacific City here in Huntington Beach. An outdoor mall with an ocean view is something that many don’t get to experiences on a daily basis. So I love sharing this special experience with people!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My creative nature was cultivated as a child by my Dad. Our time spent together when I was young was filled with nature, art, music, and all things fun and creative. While it wasn’t his intention, he nourished my innate creative abilities that I’ve leaned into as I’ve made my way as an artist.
