We had the good fortune of connecting with Lauren Mary Kim and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Lauren Mary, what role has risk played in your life or career?
My whole career is about taking risks. As a professional stunt women this is something that’s in the back of my mind everyday. To even become a stunt person you are taking a risk by not taking on a typical career. You have to have full trust In Yourself And know deep down you can do it. Anytime I have a big stunt I always think about the physical risks and assess the situation. Once that’s in my mind I let it go because if I dwell on the fact I could get hurt than I’ll get in head and be afraid. Then I do a little prayer in my mind before the big gag- I ask for protection and I visualize the end result as a positive one. I think this is a good lesson to carry out throughout your whole life. To focus on the positive to help distract you from your fears. Fear is inevitable but there are ways to minimize it.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
One of the most important lessons I’ve learned in my career is not comparing myself to others. It’s hard but we all have different paths and different lessons to learn. And don’t get me wrong…. some days I struggle but knowing the bigger picture of life helps!
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
First I would take them to my fave yoga class taught by Grace Huang Otto at Yoga Works in Studio City. Then we would go to Sqirl for lunch in Silverlake and walk around the neighborhood and get some coffee at any of the amazing coffee shops. From there we would venture to downtown LA’s art district to get some yummy desserts and walk around. From there we would drive to Manhattan Beach and walk on the strand to Hermosa beach to check out the ocean and sunset ! On the way home we would go to a cool restaurant on Abbot Kinney for dinner and cocktails.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
A very good friend Keidah Chavarria ! She keeps me on track and reminds me that everything is gonna be ok. You are never alone and your support group is really important in your life. Identify real friendships in your life. If a friend doesn’t have the best intentions for you then it’s time to clean house.
