We had the good fortune of connecting with Julie Dinh and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Julie, what’s something about your industry that outsiders are probably unaware of?
1 thing that outsiders are unaware of being in the industry is it’s blood, sweat and tears. Everyone thinks it’s all fun and games and how glamorous it is. But sometimes it can be so tough. Our long hours on set, sometimes we don’t even sleep and work crazy hours to make it all happen. Everyone working together as a team trying to make the vision come to life and try to make it successful. But it’s definitely worth it once it all comes together! So people definitely don’t know what happens behind closed doors and don’t know how much time and effort we put into these projects we are working on

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
What I am most proud of is i took a risk and quit my accounting job for something that I love to do, and that is creating and making people feel beautiful about themselves. How I got here was I was kept pushing myself everyday. I worked 2 years for free and then finally people recognized my work ethic and how much passion I had for makeup and they loved how hard working I was so I made my connections and I have a lot of clients now that would always book me . I have learned so much being in this industry. It is knowing your worth and not let people play you and take advantage of you. Don’t let your guard down.

Any great local spots you’d like to shoutout?
I would take them to Griffith park, to go on an adventure and hike. I’m a very outdoorsy person and love nature and to hike . It’s great because you can hike to the Hollywood sign then go to the Griffith observatory after because it’s free! Then we would just explore LA and go eat at the little small cafes down on Melrose, then go where the arts districts are because they have cool murals and paintings down there. All the shops and boutiques are always fun to check out.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to make a shout out to my mentor Nikki Parisi! She was the one that taught me everything I needed to know in this industry. If it wasn’t for her I wouldn’t be where I am today. My parents for always supporting me throughout this journey and pushing me to always do better. To All my friends and family that has always had my back and supported me. And all the people in my life that I have met along the way.
