We had the good fortune of connecting with Kayla Bell and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kayla, can you tell us more about your background and the role it’s played in shaping who you are today?
I was born and raised in New Orleans and it has impacted every way in which I run my company, Arrow + Phoenix. New Orleans is a fun loving place with such a rich culture and sense of community and I always strive to intertwine that into my brand’s ethics and a lot of the styles and colors of our swimwear are inspired by things I saw growing up in the city.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’m a sustainable swimwear designer and the owner of Arrow + Phoenix Swim. We proudly create bikinis and activewear from recycled water bottles. I started sketching bikinis and dresses as a kid and while in high school, I decided I wanted to build a brand that sold swimwear and activewear that not only catered to women with bra cup sizes A-H but also a brand that had a philanthropic component so building A+P has been the greatest joy of my life thus far. I’ve been able to work with people I’ve always looked up to, meet incredible people and build a community of babes who support us unlike any other. The experience has been so humbling.and I’m so grateful because we’re just getting started.
Any great local spots you’d like to shoutout?
When my best friend visits, our first spot is always Berri’s Pizza for the lobster pizza. It is heaven on Earth. We also love to visit the Getty Villa and The Broad museums. We ride the Wheelz bicycles along Venice Beach and feel like kids all over again. I always love when my best friend and family members visit LA. They all also love to visit Malibu which is a given haha.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Ahh okay so I have to thank the incredible team over at The Doonie Fund as their grant kept us afloat during this Covid-19 pandemic and we are so grateful.
