We had the good fortune of connecting with Kinya Claiborne and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kinya, is there a risk you took at some point that you’re really happy about?
I’ve never been a risk taker. I’ve always played it safe in work, life and relationships. Stepping out of fear and fully into faith, I left my consulting job at Metro + McKissack & McKissack after nearly a decade, to take the next steps in my career as a full-time entrepreneur, managing a dynamic team of two-dozen STYLE & SOCIETY team members spanning the globe. Know that success isn’t measured by the amount of instagram followers or the money you make. For me, everyday is a new adventure and my success is measured by reaching my own personal goals and using my influence to make a positive impact in the lives of others.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I launched STYLE & SOCIETY Magazine as a creative passion project in 2013. Over the past 7 years, it’s grown into one of the hottest online publications in Los Angeles covering the best in entertainment, fashion, lifestyle, food & drinks, travel, events and philanthropy. Celebrating the coolest trends and the latest in pop culture, STYLE & SOCIETY provides an exclusive front-row view into the most exciting sought-after red carpet events, fashion must-haves, travel destinations and more! Expanding on the success of the STYLE & SOCIETY brand, I recently launched STYLE & SOCIETY Group, a full service boutique-consulting agency. Celebrating women empowerment, the agency specializes in strategic communications, community relations, event planning, creative services, and digital marketing to help other brands empower, inspire and influence communities with confidence.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I’ve been a downtown Los Angeles resident for nearly 20 years and I am a huge DTLA advocate. Since the Coronavirus pandemic, travel has shifted from domestic and international flights, to local exploration and road trips. I would encourage everyone to rediscover the beauty and soul of downtown in the heart of Los Angeles. Some of my favorite must-see locations to visit while self-distancing include the Walt Disney Concert Hall, Broad Museum, Grand Central Market and the Arts District. Downtown is also a cultural melting pot with some of the best restaurants in Los Angeles available for take-out and delivery including Bestia, Yang Chow, Daikokuya, Egg Slut, Joey DTLA, and KazuNori.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to shoutout the entire STYLE & SOCIETY Team for being the backbone of the company and staying strong and supportive of one another during these uncertain times. Specifically, I want to shot out Aphua Larbi-Amoah, Brandy Bell, Thy Nguyen and Hannah Hanford for their outstanding work, continued growth and always being a team player.
