We had the good fortune of connecting with Kristie Kennedy and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kristie, what role has risk played in your life or career?
I’ve tasted the sweetest rewards of success because I chose to overlook the fear associated with taking risks. For years I have stated that I want the words, “Here lies a woman with no regrets!” on my grave headstone. I have been in hot pursuit of my passion for decades and it’s what keeps my blood boiling. I have fallen flat on my face on numerous occasions and each disappointment has revealed a priceless pearl of wisdom. It is easy to become risk-averse after experiencing countless setbacks. Yet, I would rather be fully alive than merely existing and watching time fly by from the sidelines.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Six years ago, I turned a pink slip into Queenfidence Image Consulting. It has been one of the most painstaking and arduous projects I’ve ever placed my hands to. This is why it is extremely precious to me. As I look back in retrospect, the visionary leader I am today is a culmination of years of personal development. I have poured my entire essence into the company and what makes it unique is every lesson, every heartache, every feat, every delay is weaved into the fabric of what it is evolving into. I’ve personally overcome the same issues that female leaders are struggling with today. Our internal fears are often the number one obstacle to seizing opportunities. I often quote an affirmation that states, “No one is you and that is your power.” I want every woman to know that who she is apart from professional degrees, titles and accoutrements is more than enough. I was able to rebuild myself and my life with the same bricks that were designed to shatter my confidence. I overcame the challenges with a bodacious belief, radical resilience and massive momentum.
Any great local spots you’d like to shoutout?
I am one who values meaningful moments and deep dialogue. We would visit nature spots, beaches, aquariums, the zoo, art museums, and restaurants that have unique stories behind them.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
The inner qualities that I possess as an altruistic leader have been deeply inspired by my selfless mother. I honor my sixth-grade teacher who placed a black and white mead journal in my hand. It was a lifeline during a volatile time as a young adult. I honor my High School Guidance Counselor who believed in my future and advocated for obtaining a college education when my grades were below average. I honor every single female leader that has invested in my dreams. I honor my faithful inner circle who unwaveringly strengthen me during the most vulnerable aspects of my leadership journey. I honor my husband who is a rock of love that I can always run to in moments of mayhem. I honor my first speaking agent Joanna Finney, who died unexpectantly on New Years Day in 2018 at the age of Thirty-One. She lived every day as if it were her last. The legacy she left infuses me with gratitude for life and a daily commitment to cherish everything.
