We had the good fortune of connecting with Kristine Lisman and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kristine, what do you attribute your success to?
I would say loving what I do, being persistent, always having a good attitude, and most important finding my niche are all factors behind my success as a working Makeup artist. I am trained in different areas of makeup, but I love doing natural looks and I’ve worked hard in mastering that skill. I also enjoy working red carpets, glam makeup, editorial shots, film and commercials. It’s all a lot of fun, all different ways to express my creativity and I enjoy all of it. However for me it was important to concentrate on one area of makeup, set goals and go after them. In my case that was Headshot photography. Working with different photographers I’ve learned different photography styles, different lighting techniques, it has helped me further improve my skills to be able to produce a flawless, photo ready face.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’ve always had a love for art and being a Makeup artist allows me to showcase my creativity and abilities as an artist. This field is super competitive and full of talented people so is the little details that make you stand out. It can be something as simple as being on time and reliable. Last year I worked on a project that I’m super excited about and is set to come out this summer. The project name is “Dads” directed by Bryce Dallas Howard. It’s a documentary that explores the meaning of modern fatherhood. Make sure to watch!! 🙂 I have definitely had to overcome challenges to get to this point in my career. At the beginning there was fear and uncertainty that come along with being a freelance artist in such a competitive field. One thing I’ve learned during this journey is to be patient, be nice to everybody, collaborate with people who can help you build connections as well as your portfolio and never stop learning. My story is very simple, is one of persistence and hard work. One thing I would like the world to know about me is that I absolutely love what I do, and I’m very appreciative of every opportunity that comes my way. Every client is my most important client.
Any great local spots you’d like to shoutout?
I’ve lived in West Hollywood for over 10yrs and I love this city. When friends come to visit there’s never a shortage of what to do. Some of my favorite outdoor places are Franklin Canyon. Such a nice place to go for nature walks, hard to believe this place exists right in the middle of the city. Runyon Canyon is another place my friends love to go, doing that hike makes you feel like you are on top of the world. On warm days there’s nothing like heading to the beach. I love Annenberg beach house in Santa Monica or Paradise cove Beach Café in Malibu. There’s something about taking a drive and have brunch to the sound of the ocean. Some of my favorite places to dine in are Weho Bistro, great brunch spot. Marix tex mex café and their famous kick ass margaritas are a must. The conservatory is a great place to eat and catch up with a friend. Other favorite fun places to eat are Hamburger Mary’s, Barney’s beanery, Mama shelter, Laurel Hardware, Ysabel’s, Tortilla Republic and finally you can never go wrong with In- N-out burgers. Melrose has a lot of cute little stores to shop, downtown has a great fashion district and you feel like splurging you can always head to Rodeo Drive. West Hollywood is so well known for the nightlife and boystown has evolved in the last few years. The Abbey, Chapel , Revolver and Rocco’s are all fun places to go for a cocktail and some fun.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
