We had the good fortune of connecting with Aaliyah Nelson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Aaliyah, can you tell us more about your background and the role it’s played in shaping who you are today?
I am born and raised in Los Angeles, CA. Inglewood to be exact! Lol I would say that being from Los Angeles in general its always way harder for you to be successful in your own city so you have to work and grind ten times harder. As the late and great Nipsey Hussle would say “On a mission your worst enemy is idle time” has always been something that has been instilled in my everyday life. I know that everyday when I wake up I need to do something for my business, something that will grow my business. If I’m not doing anything, my business will be stagnant right? Even if its something as small as reaching out to an influencer on a social media platform or simply just making sure I post on my business page. I know that hard work concludes with great results.

My family and my mother especially has always been there through every obstacle with my business but reminds me to never give up and stick to the plan. That of course encouraged me to always go through with every goal I have set small or big. I know I have a lot of people rooting for me, I cannot and will not let them down.

What should our readers know about your business?
The name of my business is Zaire Extensions. I sell Raw South Indian Hair Extensions and natural hair care products. In the hair world there are so many different types of hair extensions, as far as Brazilian, Malaysian being two popular types sold. I sell Raw Indian Temple Extensions meaning they are straight from Indian, no added dyes or parabens to my hair. My extensions can be worn for up to 5 + years with proper maintenance. When purchasing hair from me it will be an investment and a relief knowing you no longer have to keep buying hair every time you get an install or new hairstyle.

Starting my business and even finding the proper vendor was not easy at all! So much money wasted in trying samples that just was not real Indian hair. I sampled hair for a good year and half until I found the perfect vendor located in India. Every time I received a bad sample I just had to tell myself “Don’t give up” I just knew someone was out there with what I was looking for.

I would say the number one lesson learned is literally to just never settle because it gets rough because it can definitely tarnish your business because of one mistake when you just could have kept going to get the correct result.

I would love the world to that Zaire Extensions sells quality hair extensions and hair care products like drawstring bonnets, hair wraps, EZ detangling brushes and edge brushes and our newest products natural edge control and heat protectant spray. Check us out online at zaireextensions.com.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would take them to lunch at one of my favorite places for lunch Marmalade Cafe at the Grove. The Grove is a popular place to visit in LA you can pretty much do everything there eat, shop, drink, sometimes I find myself spending hours there just going to stores or even spending time in Barnes and Noble.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would love to just shout out each and every single black entrepreneur who started a company recently and just to let them know that I see you and I am so proud of you! I would like to shoutout my best friend Raven Kidd and her company @fivefootseven_ she will be dropping her 2nd Collection this Fall, check out her Instagram page.
