We had the good fortune of connecting with Adaeze Nwanonyiri and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Adaeze, is there something you can share with us that those outside of the industry might not be aware of?
The biggest misconception is that anyone can start a business just by walking in and out of the establishment. It does not work like that. It is extremely strategic, time consuming and maximizing every square footage, idea and time is critical.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I handle the design and decor at Bea’s Bakery in Tarzana, California. As a first generation Nigerian from Houston, Texas, maintaining and sharing your culture is highly important to me.

What sets our bakery apart from any other is that all of baked goods have different ingredients from different countries. This enables all nationalities to merge and understand the meanings behind the ingredients as well as the design.

The lessons that I have learned along the way is to never judge a book by it’s cover.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would take my friend to the Carlsbad Flower Fields in Carlsbad Ranch, California because it is an absolute magical gift that was given to the world by Mother Nature.

The vast majority of land that expands to 55 acres of colorful flowers that lovingly stand tall tells a story of its own. The Tecolote Ranuculus flower fields is great for all ages and cultures.

For sightseeing, Carlsbad Village would be the place of choice due to never ending choice of eateries, outdoor activities and the Magee, Martin Brown or Pine Park are must see!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would definitely love to send a shoutout to my sister, Onyinye who resides in Houston, Texas. She is truly my biggest supporter by giving me insights about the different deserts that Beas Bakery creates. She always asks me what inspired me to think of the designs of the desert. Then she always asks, “When are you returning to Houston.”
Onyinye’s feedback is truly appreciated.

Another great support is my business partner and husband, Lenny Rosenberg. It is a blessing that I do not take for granted. I have learned a lot about strategy, profits and loss as well inventory of food related items due to his heavy experience in rebranding and selling restaurants and bakeries, nationwide.
He has taught me a lot about the being a true boss in business and in life.

The best advice that he has stated to me is “Do not let your emotions get in the way of business.”
