Meet Adam Nedeff | Game show historian and author

We had the good fortune of connecting with Adam Nedeff and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Adam, what habits do you feel helped you succeed?
Just promising myself that I would do the work. I was working two jobs when I wrote my first book, but I made a vow that I would get SOMETHING written every day. I would come home at night and spend 30 minutes writing and researching. It was just 30 minutes, and that’s not much when you’re writing nonfiction because you’re pausing to look at a newspaper excerpt or magazine or whatever every minute to check your facts. But little by little, it got written. I kept my promise to myself.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I write books about the history of game shows. Very often, these shows were covered in terms of what the games were, how they were played, but what I wanted was stories. Who made these shows? Where did the ideas come from? What happened behind the scenes? Who were these hosts?
It was easy only because I was blessed to be surrounded by people who made it easy. One of the greatest gifts you can give anyone is your faith in what they’re doing. I had so many doors opened for me.
I want people to know that my books are comprehensive studies of the shows and their makers, and that they’re written from a place of love. I’m not looking for sensationalism or “dark side” stories, although if it’s the truth, I’ll present a relevant “dark side” story. I love details and context.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If they were visiting my neighborhood, I’d obviously take them to see tapings of “The Price is Right” and “Let’s Make a Deal.” The studio is just down the street from me. I’d love to take them to the Alex Theatre in Glendale, a beautiful, grand old theatre that presents concerts and classic movies. There are some fantastic restaurants on Brand Boulevard in Glendale, I’d try to take them to a different one each night. Sushi, Cuban, Mediterranean, Italian…there’s no wrong choice anywhere on that road.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Fred Wostbrock was an author himself, as well as an agent who worked in the world of game shows. Fred saw something in me that was beyond just being a fan. He saw me commit myself to celebrating and exploring this history of people that he loved and a genre that he cared about. He called people to arrange interviews for me. He loaned he prized possessions from his own collection. Fred believed in me and got me to where I am now.
