We had the good fortune of connecting with Adeva Watkins and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Adeva, is there a quote or affirmation that’s meaningful to you?
” A goal is not always meant to be reached; it often serves as something to aim to” Bruce Lee.

Sometimes our goals can seem very far away and we zone in on trying to achieve it and by doing that, we don’t notice the journey. The journey towards a goal can sometimes be just as, I’d not more satisfying. You passed obstacles, you adapted, you did it.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My fiber artist journey began thanks to my mother, she was my crochet teacher. Thanks to her I have gone from horrifically shaped crochet blankets, to full beautifully done outfits. I have learned that you may feel like a master, but you have no idea, fiber arts keep expanding and the things being done with yarn, is incredible and inspiring to me. I want the world to know that what drives me, is wanting people to feel colorful and comforted.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Oh this is actually hard because I’m so introverted, if I had to pick a place or would be Oxford lake in Oxford Alabama. I would walk laps around alot, and it was a nice little scenic view.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Tolisa Watkins-Jones. If not for her, I quite literally wouldn’t be here. I wouldn’t even know how to crochet or had the desire to master the skill, if not for her teaching me.
