We had the good fortune of connecting with Rawl Paredes and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Rawl, what do you attribute your success to?
I think staying consistent in what my style is. People know when they work with me, its going to be different then your ordinary photo shoot. Always reminding people on social media that i am still here doing what i do. Taking chances is major, you have to be persistent but not pushy, its a fine balance.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My photography style is not something I thought I would ever be doing when i first picked up a camera. I have always been into dark, mysterious, twisted, goth styles so when I started to learn more and apply it to the people I worked with it opened up a whole new world to me. My photo style isn’t for everyone, its on the darker side and I love it like that. Theres not too many of us doing this style. I am very proud of the work I’ve done in the last year or two. The models and people who have worked with me have been major because a lot of times they bring so much to the shoots and make it that much better, more than I would have imagined, from costumes , makeup, and poses and knowing what to do plays a major role. I think in the beginning I had a very hard time finding answers to questions i had about gear, poses, who to work with, finding locations. I had a few photographers help out a bit but most didn’t want to give me much information. So I took that as a challenge and decided I will find the answers on my own and do trial and error. The lesson there for me is I never want to be that person. I will help anyone struggling with photography. I started a workshop and held my first one this year and was very proud of how that went. I want to do more and teach whatever knowledge i know. I never want to be selfish with that. I want to continue to grow my photography business and make it the top one for dark goth aestehtics that you can go to. I shoot many styles as well which may surprise people, weddings, , products, quincenerea, landscapes, real estate. I think if you want to be better you should be able to shoot anything. I have another website for that type of work, but my true love is my dark portraits.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
There are so many things to do in LA, I would say any of the horror events that come around through the year like Monsterpalooza, Halloween clubs spook show and midsummer scream are some of the best haunt events you can ask for. Theres also the beetle house in hollywood. To me Disneyland is overrated, give me a haunt event and I’m there!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My girlfriend has been huge in supporting me, I work with mostly female models and its nice to have someone not only support me but help out on ideas and help on some of my shoots and become friends with the models I work with.
