We had the good fortune of connecting with Adrian Rashad Driscoll and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Adrian Rashad, is your business focused on helping the community? If so, how?
I believe that any experience company has to focus on 2 things above all, story and community. The thought process must be more about the lasting effect on your audience than the money to be made. I have found that through Immersive media not only can we change the mood of a user (through an experience); but we can actually create more opportunities for people around the world. Our mission from day one was to create powerful stories all the while creating a more inclusive landscape that everyone can benefit from.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I spend most of my time these days creating experiences at Collimation or speaking to groups of people about creating experiences. I think the thing that has set me a part from a lot of other artists is my understanding of the importance of story. In my opinion, everything in life is a story there is a narrative in every situation. So, I can’t understand why so few people (especially in immersive media) focus on story first. I focus my attention on the annoyingly meticulous details that tell the story. I’ve seen way too many people use 360 Video or VR as a gimmick and it always shows. Everything is a tool to tell a story, you can shoot garbage on a Red Cam, and you can shoot a masterpiece on an iPhone. Story matters, emotion matters, the audience matters, the tech should only support those three things.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I’m probably the wrong person to ask this haha. I’m a homebody by most standards. This is how a weekend would look like however: Definitely a trip to the Getty Museum, I love that place! We would likely spend some time at one of the music or movie studios and follow-up with night-time Karaoke at Brass Monkey. I’m not really a foodie, but there are a few hole-in-the-wall places that are must visits. Sadly, I don’t even know their business names.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I definitely didn’t get here alone. It took a LOT of people helping me to get this far. I have a handful of people that have (and continue to) pushed me to get here.
God, Mom, MamaDorsie, Shauntelle, Grandpa, My wife Lien, My son Academy, Brian & the Jenkins Family, Young Guru, Harold Hayes Jr., The Collimation Team, Mick Finn, The NBC A-Team, MontyKong, Alton Glass, Amanda Shelby, RomeDigs, Nichelle Murdock, Rahney, and a long list of people that I’m sure I unintentionally forgot.
