We had the good fortune of connecting with Adwoa Duncan-Williams and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Adwoa, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
It honestly became the only thing that I knew could keep me pushing, keep me motivated, keep me persevering, keep me competitive, wanting more and most importantly, make and keep me happy.
Acting is the outlet I’ve known about my whole life, it’s truly the only thing I knew I could easily do forever and never get complacent or bored of. I had to pursue it, it was going to help evolve me as a person and bring some many layers I didn’t know existed. It was the uncertainty I was happy to have.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’m an actor, I pride myself on telling meaningful stories. I fully emerged myself in the craft. I’ve managed to set foundations for myself here as an actor, hopefully a respected one thereafter. There’s been many obstacles that I’ve faced, however it’s lessons have been the biggest gems for me. I’ve learnt to become my own team and be okay in that. Believing yourself, not just in yourself is paramount. I want the world to know my brand is truth ringing bells, I want the world to know I’m living testimony in believing and achieving. Setting goals I know I’ll achieve, because I believe and I WORK for it most importantly. It’s okay to be a hard worker in your goals. It’s even more courageous to bet on yourself- and I’ve done that. I’m super excited about my digital series Ms/Manage coming out in November- the festival submissions have been rolling in as yet, and the show itself is God willing to do great things. I also did a BETHer movie, which premiered last month and had fantastic reviews. I’m excited about winning the EGOT title in the future, excited about it all and what my story entails.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I’d definitely take them to my fav Irish bar that has the best spinach and artichoke dip.
I’d also take them to a super dope rooftop like Le Bain. As well as dumbo and sit and watch the water.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to shout out God most importantly. My partner Jahlil who’s been more than I knew I needed and actually shouted me out haha. I also want to shout out 220th Street Productions for being a catapult for minority creators and artists in this industry and for allowing me to shoot my first major lead in a series !! Caralene Robinson is forever an inspiration to me. #msmanageseries IG: msmanageseries
