Meet Ahmed Mohamed | Associate FX Artist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Ahmed Mohamed and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Ahmed, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
Like many, I loved to draw growing up. I used to be the kid in the back of the classroom using their time to sketch rather than focus on what the teachers talked about. It was very evident that I enjoyed certain subjects with emphasis on creative freedom more than others. Subjects such as art and music were where I shined and teachers usually saw that in me. It was sometimes hard to maintain this interest out of fear that I wouldn’t be able to make a living with it. Thankfully my parents assured me that a living in the creative field is very much a possibility if I choose to continue on this path. That gave me a lot of courage to continue doing what I was doing and make up goals along the way.
I can confidently say that my parents played a big part in why I pursued a creative career. My dad wrote poems growing up and dreamed of being an actor, my mother was into directing in theater. Although their career paths changed, their dreams lived within me which made me feel the responsibility to respect my own goals.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Currently, I work as an Associate FX artist in the gaming industry. My job is to create visuals for characters to enhance their looks and feel while making the game immersive for players. It’s a very entertaining field as I get to be creative whilst facing technical challenges along the way.
To avoid burnouts I follow other hobbies such as photography which I started to take a bit seriously nowadays. It’s always fun to go out and photoshoot things, you don’t know what you’re going to get and if the trip is worth it in the end or not but, for me, the mystery of it is where the fun lies.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
When I visit LA, I like to go to the Griffith Observatory. The beautiful architecture of the building can make for a good framing during photoshoots, and touring It is always an option which can lend inspiration. In San Diego, SeaPort Village is one of my favorite places to visit. I absolutely love the sea life, the noisy sea lions and seagulls. It’s a great place to relax and enjoy a cup of coffee or walk around and enjoy the scenic views.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to dedicate this Shoutout to my loving parents and friends. My parents have gone through great lengths to help get me to where I am today and my friends made this journey all the better.
