We had the good fortune of connecting with Aisha Olemba and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Aisha, any advice for those thinking about whether to keep going or to give up?
Your intuition is one of the most powerful powers we have as humans. Some choose to ignore it and others use it to help guide them through anything and everything in life. That feeling of unsureness and doubt should always be a reason to sit down with yourself and ask if that “feeling” is serving you. Whenever I feel that feeling I know that I must reconsider what I’m doing. Nothing that you love should feel so hard to the point where your dread doing it. Once you reach that point it’s time to revaluate.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Being able to take my experiance as a performer and using that to also be a choreographer and creative diretor has been fulfilling. I like to think I have an eye for noticing a particular type of thing of valuable and good quality which not many people have. Being able to have attention to the smallest details makes the upmost diffrence when it comes to the final project. I’m a libra and I can’t help but go back and forth until I find the best option lol. Getting to where I am today professionally has geunailly been because of my kindness and respect for anyone I work with and the quality of my work/projects I’ve been on. It wasn’t easy to get where I’m at right now which is no where close to where I wanna be in the future but knowing my self worth and what I bring to the table has opened so many door such as this interview! What I want the world to know about me and my brand is that I treat my career how I treat myself with value, quality, and the highest respect. I want others to learn and do the same with whatever they choose to do with their own lives.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Out in the DMV (Dc, Maryland, and Virginia), we got some good food! I would start out the day in DC for a brunch moment at The Park at 14th. Then make our way to a local museum and take bomb pictures. After that, We would shop around Pike and Rose along with sneaking in a nap (must nap lol). Afterward, we would hit the town and check out local DMV artists at underground bars and clubs. Throughout this, we would meet new people, see amazing sensory, and lastly and most importantly eat good!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to shoutout two of my friends (sisters) Faith and Niyah. Faith saw things in me that I never saw in myself. She has pushed me to see how my dreams can and will become reality if I put my mind to them. She also helped me make sense of how I can use my talents and make them a professional career. Niyah has not only been a big sister to me but has been like a mentor! As I navigate this world of dance she has helped guide and push me beyond my limits. These two beautiful and talented women in my life have held me accountable throughout my journey and I will forever give them credit and recognition in my story!
